Now then.. what the hell is on the hill.. too many years gone I'm afraid. It's not Fort Southwick cause I was there but there was a-n-other military establishment up there. Just can't recall what it was

Portsdown Hill.

It's got a mock up of a Type 45 superstructure on it.

Ya..

Knew it was Portsdown Hill but couldn't remember the name of the establishment there. There's always been a radar of some description up there.. for donkey's anyway  The folk now in charge (Qinetiq) were not in existance to the best of my knowledge. It used to belong to AWRE or ASWE so it was either of these two followed by Portsdown

Surprising what you forget when you don't think about it  :poke:

According to Google Earth it's called DSTL-Portsdown

Don't know if that's the latest name

Was probably called something else when you were there

You are a cheeky git Dan!!

ASWE (as was) stood for Admiralty Surface Weapons Establishment so I guess it was probably that when I left in '89. AWRE was.. I think, Admiralty Weapons Research Establishment so it may have been that  DSTL is a new one on me
