imagine being on the right side of the plane
and looking out the window
 "FLYING SIDEWAYS!! were Flying Sideways"
i experienced a messy landing at Montery CA at night
raining and windy I could feel the plane yaw at TD and we
stayed that way till the nose wheels were on the ground
then started to slide the opposite direction....
I know alot of you guys have way better stories doing it for a
living (piloting) or seeing them from the ground working in the industry
.............
If you had someone throw you toward the ground like that then pulled you back up at the last mo I'm sure you'd let out the odd black spurt.........
Certainly see the power come back on

Even on those CFM56s, the sudden change of direction will affect the flow into the intakes which inturn will upset all the compression and combustion processes further down the line as it were, in this case causing a large amount of carbon to be produced in combustion.
- that coupled with a probably not insignificant increase in demanded thrust
