If the Flight Model is anything to go by MSFS 2020 looks like it'll have support for legacy models:

Also, MS just joined the Blender Development Fund, which I hope is no coincidence. With any luck the SDK will be fully integrated with Blender, which could open the flood gates for freeware (and payware) developers

Yes, I noticed that too. I've been looking at getting my head around Blender recently just in case!Airtrooper wrote: ↑03 Aug 2020, 18:25Also, MS just joined the Blender Development Fund, which I hope is no coincidence. I downloaded it before I went away. Certainly looks like a powerful piece of software and there’s loads of tutorials.

IMO that is double-edged sword. On the one hand I'll be delighted to have Phil Chandler's (Flying Stations/Bravo Zulu) HMS Victorious etc. sailing around in MSFS... plus many other models from other developers too. On the other hand the AI ships in FSX (and P3D) are very crude when it comes to their interaction with waves, swell and wind, making their movements very unrealistic. LM (and now MS) put a lot of effort into improving the water itself... but not the ship dynamics. I was half hoping MS would have started with a blank sheet in this regard, even at the expense of loosing compatibility with existing FSX/P3D models.

With the ability to fly VFR around the globe ( allegedly ) I'd like:
H.P. 42/45
Short C-class flying boat ( Rob Richardson...any hope ? )
A certain D.H. Rapide, updated for MSFS

Ah... don’t be getting to excited. The plans are the same format, the models are not. So you don’t seem to be able to just drop legacy aircraft / ships etc in. There’s a new format, so models would need to be recompiled with a new SDK from what I can see, and the SDK is a way off.
