Alex...oh, my fading memory....I had to look it up!
But I do remember my father accidentally standing on my fingers when I was a toddler, crawling round his workshop floor.
Maybe there wasn't enough pain in the book; too many laughs!

I also had to look it up...its a long time ago that it was first aired on radio in the late '70's....
