EF2000 was fantastic, years a head of its time. It ran in DOS4GL and used the 3DFX Glide too. Superb stuff.

Was that before or after TFX? Had em both but difficult to say which one I preferred. Of them all.. I think Tornado did it for me  The way the screen shook when you dropped JP233...

Ha ha - all these guys showing their age! (self included :$ ).

There was a Gunship - I still have it for a couple of platforms - by Digital Integration - in fact you can download it and play for free HERE if you are that way inclined! I would suggest using DOSBox and you'll find it does work in current Windows. There was also an early Microprose version. And a D.I.D. version :worried:

Then there was Gunship 2000 - which I have for the Amiga.

Then (again) there was Gunship! - and that's this particular one. It's by Microprose (I think GS2000 was, too) but was with much better graphics and gameplay. The models of the Soviet vehicles and armour is great, I had lots of fun with it. In fact, I almost jumped out of my skin the first time I got into 'combat', looking through the gunners sights, zoomed in, and a tracked SA-6 came into a clearing in the woods, lurched to a halt and fired off a missile at me! Scary!

I still have my original and luckily, the printed manual, but although it will install to Win7, it doesn't always work so well. Hence buying this, and so far no issues at all.

by the way - remember F-117 Stealth Fighter too? Well, you can now buy that from Good Old Games for $5.99, also for current windows versions.

You could spend an awful lot of time with these golden oldies!

There is talk of it ;)

I had Tornado on the Amiga. I loved it, and at the age I was then (13-14ish) it was quite a lot to get to grips with.

My favourite flight sim of all time had to be "Their Finest Hour", a really blocky Battle of Britain sim.
To my shame I never got anywhere as a fighter pilot but ended up with the Knight's Cross with swords, oak leaves and diamonds as a Stuka Pilot! :hide:

Tornado on the Amiga, huh? Yup - I have it in my desk :) The one I used to play was on the Spectrum 48 - and the most difficult thing to do was the aerial refuelling. Only ever completed the full campaign once. "Full" he says 8) - about 5 missions in total!

Anyway, if anyone does buy Gunship! from Steam, you will probably find this website very interesting:

http://www.simwarrior.com/gunship/modsadds.html

It's the fansite, providing many mods to add to the game. I'd heard of it, but only just found it. TrackIR can be made to work with it, apparently. Results vary, though.

Now, if we are really showing our ages who can remember 747 on the Vic20.

Loved them all but sadly look very dated now. I guess with youth comes acceptance of simplicity (and 8 bit graphics).

Bit advanced for me that one  . My first was Psion Flight Simulation on the ZX81.
Had a ZX80 before that :cpu: , but I can't remember if there was ever a flight sim for it. *-)

Yeah, I'm sort of unsure about that, Dave.

My old man had a ZX81 before he bought his Spectrum ZX (and I bought mine about the same time) but I could swear we played Tomahawk on his ZX81, and I know for a fact he had it before I did, because I distinctly remember being amazed that he allowed me to have a go  Yet the release date for Tomahawk is given as 1985.

Pretty sure Tomahawk was considered the first 'proper' helicopter simulator for the home computer (though we may laugh at that these days).

Oh, and what's all this about being old and using disks? *-)

That's newfangled space-age tech, my fellow!

Wanna see my collection of data cassettes? :wasntme:

Here, in action:

One of the 'most advanced' sims for the Amiga, circa 1997, was Jet Pilot:

I really liked it because it was the first flight sim to include the EE Lightning and F-104G Starfighter. It also had many UK RAF airfields and radar coverage, in addition to ATC:

It even had Vulcans, too! :agree:

Actually, I still have them all, set up with my Amigas and Speccy, just the other side of the room. I am that sad man who still plays them! (and still enjoy it!)
