Good idea, Nigel! And I'll be the first customer
All this fiddling isn't as crazy as it sounds. Some of us really like P3D and want to use it for as much of our flying as we can. But there are two main problems. One is that it's under development and may need to be uninstalled again when a new version comes out so we're trying to hive off as many add-ons as possible to save time when that happens. What we're discovering here is what can be kept outside of P3D and what can't.
The other problem is that P3D isn't intended to be backwards compatible and as parts of the code are changed we are finding that some functions on older aircraft and scenery don't work, so we are also seeing if there are ways round it. It's pretty much compatible with FSX stuff but less so with FS9. So if your flying is predominantly in FS9 aircraft then P3D holds nothing but disappointment for you
But with a sophisticated new aircraft optimised for P3D flying in likewise optimised scenery, the experience is er, awesome
So think of it as pioneering in a brave new world! We like the shade of greenery on the other side of the hill and are seeing how much baggage we can take with us.
