Torquay

Post by Nigel H-J »

Returned home yesterday after spending five days at Torquay, well, 3 days actually, the other 2 were spent travelling. 8)

Left home on Monday morning and arranged to pop in and see Derek (Delp) of Dove fame, really great to see him again after such a long time, the last we saw of each other was at Coventry Airport. Had a good talk and a nice welcomed cup of coffee but unfortunately time just flew by and we had to hit the road. So once again, many thanks for your hospitality Derek.

The first day we spent looking around Babacombe, foolishly we decided to walk thinking it was not far from where we were staying....wrong!! I guess we spent quite a few hours moving from one place to the other i.e. model village and the caves before walking back into Torquay then treking to the theatre in the evening.

Following day saw us in Brixham and Dartmouth followed by a visit to Paington Zoo the very next day. There were many places that we wished to visit but with only three full days to ourselves that does restrict ones' visits especially where a long drive is involved.

The weather could not have been more perfect for October, well into the sixties.

Anyway, enough of the chatter.

One could imagine that this was taken in some far-away exotic location, just the position when taking the photograph gives that appearance.

My wife does not like having her photograph taken as you can see from her expression!! (Boy, am I in trouble if she finds out I posted it) :hide: after a number of pleas she finally relented, I was only allowed the one, any others would have been with her back to the camera

Taken Dartmouth, Babs was looking forward to going on the ferry as she enjoys boating trips but was somewhat mortified that it only took about five minutes to complete the crossing.

Finally the last one, taken at Paignton Zoo and just could not resist taking a photograph, the Meerkats are one of my favourites so tell me.... how can you ignore such a pose? He or is it a she just kept on coming up to me all the time and giving me this look!! :$

Next year hope to save up enough and go to Cornwall for a week.

Regards
Nigel.

Lovely shots Nigel. What a beautiful part of the world. The wife and I are destined to live down that neck of the woods someday.

Thanks for sharing. :)

Lovely pictures, Nigel! Wonderful colours and scenery. A few too many people for my liking, I'm a very shy person (Image) but I could take that little meerkat home with me. Isn't he delightful?

So are we Eddie.....hopefully!! I am now 58, my wife is 3 years older than me so really need to be looking at moving with-in the next 3 -4 years but the way everything is going financially regarding retirement (Pensions)....it is not looking too good at the moment!! :worried:

Shy Ian? Don't believe a word of that....not with your job anyway. Thought of just scooping that Meerkat up and putting him/her into my pocket and building a bl**dy big sandpit in the garden, such wonderful animals and highly intelligent.

Many thanks for all your comments, really appreciated.

Hi Nigel,
Glad that you had a good time down here, in Torbay. I am one of the lucky ones as I live and work down here, renting just behind the Zoo, can here the animals calling out during the day ane early mornings, Did you try the round robin trip, Stream train from Paignton to Kingswear, Ferry across to Dartmouth, trip up the River Dart to Totnes and Bus back to Paignton, if weather is good its a great trip,

Regards Paul.

Lovely pictures, Nigel! Want to trade weather? It is cold and raining here since Thursday. Fall, as the Colonials call it, has changed into Winter and the leaves are only just turning. Needless to say, all those pictures are just a reminder of how beautiful England is and you and I and Ian both manage to make me very homesick.

Great pictures, Nigel.

I swear I can smell the sea when looking at those pics of Brixham harbour.

Cheers
