Oh no, the dark side ....

Re: Oh no, the dark side ....
Interesting discussion chaps. I'm surprised you find the beau heavier than the Hawk, but then I got to thinking, can you do a comaparisson of both without the weapons selected? I'm wondering if the dropable object on the beau are making it heavier on the frames, as by default the Hawk only has the reds dye pack.

Re: Oh no, the dark side ....
Could always give it a shot. The CBLS pods on the Hawk literally grind my sim to a halt for some bizarre reason. It'll fly for a few sections, stutter, totally freeze for another few seconds, and then repeat the process.

Re: Oh no, the dark side ....
Its because each bomblet is actually a separate model (so they can be dropped) The beau loads some weapons by default (depending on the model selected) whereas the Hawk doesn't, so thats why I reckon some folk are experiencing problems. The cannon or paint pod on the Hawk are static (i.e. not separate models) so won't add to the frames. The sidewinders will add only a little as when selected thats only an additional two models, but the CBLS is 8 additional models. At least thats what I imagine the issue will be.

Ben.

Re: Oh no, the dark side ....
Ok... from my own tests, I'm talking sh1t3. I'm actually seeing a 1 - 2 increase in fps with the weapons loaded :doho:
Ben.

Re: Oh no, the dark side ....
Well the actual bombs aren't loaded unless it's in a mission that you've set up. The actual pods must be what's causing it.
Re: Oh no, the dark side ....
Nope mate, the bombs are there, mission or not... its just that you can only drop them in a mission, but regardless, I'm getting the same frames on both models (give of take 5 - 10 fps) over sea with full FEX clouds etc and limiter off, 60 - 70 fps, strangely though, I'm only getting 12 - 15 over the Mersey...
Ben.

It's quite strange how different things affect different systems so... differently.
It's no huge deal anyway. I prefer aerobatic routines and low level flying in Wales with the Hawk. I prefer a Tornado GR4, Harrier or Jaguar for bombing (although still awaiting FSX models of all those)!

Re: Oh no, the dark side ....
Well, as a 'dyed in the wool' FS9 fan, I am now almost content with my new FSX!
I have bought UK2000's new airfields, (something I have always had, since they first came out on previous sims) and re-installed (after much swearing) the Horizon photo scenery that goes with the UK2000 package. I have had this on CD since I first bought FSX!
Together, I have a realistic southern England that runs quite well. I still get regular stutters from time to time, but my FR's are not too shabby, being locked at 26. I will only fly 'low and slow' in this area, as anything over 180kts causes blurries, I have only installed the 2.4 res scenery (to save my HD and processor), but it is fine over 1000ft.
Anything else you FSX fans think is a 'must have' (that does not cost money), or tweaks that have improved things further?

Hi Trev
26 is a very odd locked framerate number.
to stop stutters i recommend you lock it at a dividable rate in relation to your screen refresh.
ie: if your running screen at 75 hz you lock at 25 or if your running at 60 hz you lock at 20 etc etc
then i has less chance of stutters
I personally lock at 20 (as smooth as 40 in FS9) don't be fooled into trying to get same framerate as FS9 as it's a completely different scale

Never thought of it that way, so might have to give it a try! It's either 20 or 30 for me, but I don't hit 30 all the time, so I shall try 20 and see how it goes.Rick Piper wrote:ie: if your running screen at 75 hz you lock at 25 or if your running at 60 hz you lock at 20 etc etc
