Fascinating stuff, hindsight is of course great  , ther's any amount of questions that I should have asked the older generation when they were about - but didn't think to at the time. :)

Hmm, just as well there isn't an Anson on the Pond, my work would never be done. Not that the interior bears any resemblance to an Eastern potentates mobile harem. Unless he was a back to basics potentate at any rate. :worried:

Hart is on the way, at least this is stopping me from coming up with fantasy civil schemes for the Don and the Miles M20. (I've thought out colours and found unallocated/export regs - just need Garry to be looking the other way....)

Apart from the fact that the Mk12 has a higher roofline than DG's fine model, the Ethiopian Anson that went to Hawkers was G-AGUH. The Messenger could take a while longer.

Mind you there were several civil models that would fit the Anson as modelled - including BOAC. (Bet you didn't expect that one.)

Allan,

Amazing! How did you find out about the Anson?

The interior looked very comfortable in beige decor but the layout was not really suitable for any sort of harem. I seem to remember that the main spar was an obstacle in the middle of the passenger area. This would have limited any sort of middle east shenanigans.

Allan I believe G-AKBN is our prime suspect

Leif

Sheesh other memebrs are going to tire of this thread soon and shut us down ;)

Garry/Allan there was once a certain BAC1-11 operate by Gulf-AIr that resembled a harem.

And Allan - Dont feel like the Lone Stranger, Im busy chivying Peter Watkins into doing the Hawker messenger
and the original builder of the Oxford to add an Anson turret for another project I seem to have gotten myself into.

Very neat Leif

I always liked that livery.

Put a couple of bands on the tail and we would almost have the last Silver City

I dont know why Garry, but when I was younger I remember walking into the Hangar at Elstree where Bob Pooley
had his headquarters and THAT was sitting in the hangar - For some reason (probably the Ensign) I thought it was
a Seafire - anyway - Peter will have it published here shortly - It does sort of resemble Silver Cities paint doesnt it :)

Luck - and being certifiably sad! :worried:

Actually I have a pile of Putnam reference books, which SWMBO even keeps an eye out for me, and one contains a picture of the other Anson that went to Ethiopa - it only took a couple of minutes to track down the other one that ended at Hawkers. SWMBO knows that, when I get my nose into them, she can watch any soap she likes without any interrupions from me - hence her help in finding them. Trouble is I keep heading off to find another snippet of info before I have finished the last project (Don't mention Air Luton or the Avro 504N - Jens sent me the paintkit for that and I've struggled to find enough details to do much with it). So my work here will never be done!

Unfortunately the Miles Putnam tome is relatively rare and priced accordingly. Wasn't AKBN in Ireland at the back end of the 40s-early 50s? I've found a couple of pictures of it painted some overall non-white colour though in '51 with G markings.

Ooh, Want that Spit,Want that Spit :welldone: 8) :flying:
