return with me now those golden years when entry to Old Warden cost 5 bob - a car cost a whopping half a quid
a tin of Tizer and a hot dog cost One and six, The Beatles had actually made a film, something about day and night
and on a warm Summer Sunday in August....................Oh yes forgot to mention - I was hiding in Rio














If I close my eyes just enough, I cant still hear the snarl of the Merlin, The "echoy" Tannoy system
The smell of cut grass, hot dogs and Hi Octane petrol

Thanks to Peter Watkins and Aeroplane heaven For bringing it all back

Actually Paul I believe the first time I visited Shuttle worth was 1964 The only Wlater Mitty part was flying a Hurricane

Many thanks for posting an old aquaintance of mine. With the best screen option on my Samsung, that is as close as you are going to get to the Hawker colours of dark blue and gold. Wonderful to reminisce with this one. Last worked on it for real in these colours in 1951.

As for Old Warden, my favourite airfield. Driven to it and flown into it numerous times. An absolute gem!

I agree Ralph, Old Warden is truly magical. It hosts the oldest airworthy aircraft in existence, and another one who's claim to fame is something along the lines of...the aircraft that been based at one airfield longer that any other in the world. Ed Walters told me when we were there.

Leif, whos scenery is that ? Its instantly recognizable as Old Warden, a rather nice job too.

Its the UK2000 scenery along with Gloucestershire and Sywell (which I am also familar with) I find them very good

colours at the Pond - Done by Allan L Im curious if Hawker ever managed to paint a Hunter in this colour scheme??

G-EDWB, a 1928 DH60X Hermes Moth - Richard's Shuttleworth's first aeroplane from 1932, before he got interested in historics like the Bleriot and Deperdussin! As for the oldest in the world, the Bleriot is currently slightly unairworthy, but will be back soon.

As for the shots, to be that nostalgic with G-AMAU, you need to remove most of the hangars from the scenery!

Havnt been there in lets see almost ten years

It changed alot since my day, I remember standing beside Delly Gray-Fiskes Commer Dormobile (which happened to be parked on the compass rose) and watch
the first Stearman I had ever seen (G-AROY I believe) do an incredible impromtu aerobatic display (low level) after the punters had left (Delly flew the Demosielle and the EE Wren on many occasions for the trust because she was so light. There was also a wonderful old pub in the village proper, that had a
garden to die for .
