Nothing wrong with the fan...Just needs heatsink compound replacing and I wish he would just do it rather than tempting fate by starting it up.

Well I've cleaned the whole thing out and replaced the compound. I've just fired up and the fan speed is already higher at 2700 and the temperature is holding at 30 degrees so far. Admittedly the PC has only been on for 5 minutes but it seems to be animprovement so far! Thanks Gents, I'll fire up FSX later and see what happens.

20 mins in FSX flying the E300 around Snowdon with Horizon VFR scenery and the temperature didn't go above 40 degrees! Could be a success! Thanks Ben & Peter for the advice. The fan stayed around 2700 but I presume thats because the chip didn't get too hot?
