Question for DM (or anyone else who might know)

In the trident and VC10, there are only a few lines in the [LIGHTS] section of the cfg; nothing for landing lights, taxi lights or nav lights. Can these effects not be changed using this method? Are they built into the model?

Hi Dan,

Yep, its a weird one. Just checked the Comet 4 and its similar. The other thing is the lighting types. The fullest list I can see is....
//Types: 1 Beacon, 2 Strobe, 3 Nav, 4 Cockpit, 5 Landing, 6 Taxi, 7 Recognition, 8 Wing, 9 Logo, 10 Cabin
but what do the type codes actually do. I see DM has used type 9 (logo) with VC lighting in the comet. I'm curious as to the reason for this.

If the lights aren't in the .cfg then they've been physically modelled..the various light colours come from the material applied to the part.

I did the same on the Dove, the nav lights are 3D parts ;-)

The 'logo' light is based on the alpha channel of the night-time textures and throws a patch of light..onto a tail logo for example. I suspect the use of this in a VC will simulate a patch of light from cockpit spot lamps, etc.

You can download a new Movie trailer on these lights in FSX from here:-

http://www.shockwaveproductions.com/sto ... avelights/

It is 50MBs but will download at a high rate and is well worth watching...Of course, I am using the FS9 version of these lights.

Hey chaps, and potential chap'ets,... well your never know!

Glad to see you guys are getting some good use of the lights, cracking stuff. Just remember theres a whole range of types including some 'vintage' types somwere in there that have a slighty yellow tint to them, looks great on the older classics.

Cheers,
Lewis

Oh yes the VC thingymejig, well that is somewhat dependant on how the model is made I believe and is also I think more of an FSX thing.

Comet 4 Shockwave lights...

Post by petermcleland »

Here are a set of numbers for DM's Comet 4:-

Image
Taxilights, Three for the three switches.

Image
Taxilights diagonal left view.

Image
Taxilights view ahead.

Image
Taxilights diagonal right view.

Image
Landing lights, Two for the two switches...That centre light is lit by the model but probably in error.
