Just a bit of dogfighting Nigel and some of my usual inverted stuff...I'm not sure that the city of Chicago really appreciated it though!
I might have known, definately one for a bit of excitement then Peter. I Did manage to do a beat-up between two skyscrapers at Meigs with Joe, now that was fun!! :dancer:

petermcleland wrote:Hello Ferror...I didn't know you were one of our lot!...Thanks for your kind help last night...You offered some commands that can be used and I was a bit tied up at the time...I would certainly like to copy and paste them now :) I get the feeling that quite a few of us who are new to this would like to get a bit deeper into it, so your advice will be very welcome :flying:
Well I can usually be found at the Sim-Outhouse, but I do visit this place from time to time. (Like a few more SOH regulars) :)

As for the commands: The chatbox can be used to enter some commands to 'talk' to the server. Typing '?where' (Without the quotation marks of course) will give a list of the whereabouts of each online pilot.
'?planes' will tell you what they are flying, and if you enter '?help' you'll get a list of other commands.
The '?hop' command is used to get information about the servers' hoplist. Right now the Netwings server has a series of about fifty short flights (The so-called hops) across the US and Canada.

If you want to see who is online without opening Fs or FsHost, you can always check this web page: http://www.netwings.org:8080/
Other servers might have something similar.

Thanks for the links to a guide Ferror, I have done on-line flying before, but need a refresher course! I think that my intermittant connection at that time of day may scupper ant attempt to join a session. If anybody sees me appear for a few seconds and then leave, it is my ISP, not me running away

Here's the link to the FS Host homepage.....

http://www.chocolatesoftware.com/fshost/

They make three applications for MSFS:

1) FS Host - This is the server software and it is fully documented on the site. Only required by people who want to host sessions.

2) FS Host Client - This is the client software required by FSX so that it can connect to FS Host servers. Required by anyone running FSX, FS9 users can connect directly using the default MP log-in process.

3) FS Host Spy - This is a 'sniffer' program that will search the internet for any running FS Host sessions and then list them. Very useful for finding out which servers are running 'hop lists' and where the 'hop lists' are based and if the servers are open to anyone for free flight, closed (for members only) or running special events. NOTE: You can set up the server software so that it doesn't appear on the 'active server' list, this way you can hold 'private' sessions that are unseen by the search program. I do this whenever I set mine up so that we can test the yet to be released new Shockwave aircraft in a MP environment without them being seen on a public server.

Be careful with the Chippy, I think the latest model will always display wheel chocks whilst flying as a MP aircraft. I am not sure what this one is like! It mucks up your screen shots and looks silly when in formation.
