Would you be interested in posting this over at the Alphasim forums Peter? I know Dan produced this one as something of a labour of love and I'm sure he'd welcome this sort of feedback.petermcleland wrote:Just did my first flight in it.
External Model...Pretty and fairly accurate but not perfect.
Cockpit...Not a patch on Dave's for realism with many switches incorrectly named and odd fictitious bits...And no tailchute switch on the FGA9. The metal in the cockpit is a rather nasty shiny black.
Flight Model...Well I survived...but not a patch on Echo. The most disappointing was the roll which was very slow and had a most unpleasant roll/yaw couple. Also it was very hard not to get a high speed stall warning in a loop pull up and then the stick needed to go too far forward to unstall.
I quite liked the sound but the spool up from idle was quite a bit slower than the real thing.
Don't know what to do with it really

Re: AlphaSim Hunter pics
Ok I'm going to be brave, or incredibly stupid.
First off a few ground points, l'm not involved in the Hunter, it makes no odds to me what people say, I cant get anything changed either and l'm not 'batting' for either side, I'm just interested in some fundimentals.
Standing head and shoulders above the parapet its a simple question I pose.
Would there be as much kick back if the model was priced at say £12.50 - £15.00 ?.
Lets try and be clear and mature, is it the quality of the model thats the issue or the price for what you get, if its the former then its a modellers issue, if its the latter then its a company pricing issue.
It would also be handy if we negate DGs freeware one as that clouds the simple question above.
Best
Michael

Re: AlphaSim Hunter pics
Yo Michael
As previously mentioned.. I won't get too drawn on the payware Hunter as my only experience of it are the screenies I've seen posted here.. limited at best me thinks ;-)
However.. the cost price does become an issue with many people but even this will I fear will end up falling on the double-edged blade as we've already been informed that costs must go up to make the business viable. This is understood and taken as read. Financial reports issued only this very day with regard to Marks and Sparks show that even though they appear to have had more folk through the doors and more sales.. this has been at the expense of profit margins (to get em in.. they've had to mark down prices). Indications are that this is the tip of the iceberg.
So.. what happens with AS?? Many folk think the current pricing too stiff and if Alpha lower the cost thereby moving more units, they also cut their profit margins. I think Phil prefers NZ to Bolton (as an example) so will we see this happen
My honest opinion is that AS models have become overpriced.. and by no small amount. They're now starting to command 'high end' prices without the obvious improvement in quality.. almost back to where they were say 2 or 3 years ago but at double the price (almost). I'm sure the 'core' still strive for perfection or as near to it as is possible but hearing (via other means) that the model was still being compiled on evening 'A' and released on morning 'B' doesn't fill one with enthusiasm as to the extent of it's beta run or the quality/reliability of the release version. Whatever..
The feedback I get is that they're too expensive and initially bugridden (require an immediate patch). There comes a point where this combination doesn't work and I feel many are at that point. Sure.. folk'll drip if the models were half the price but they're more likely to go back and 'try again'
My thoughts and those of a few simmers I have contact with but not in anyway meant to be representative of CBFS ;-)

After the previous problems we had with Alphasim, I remember Dan asking to be contacted by PM if you have issues with your product, rather than post them on the forum. I can see where he is coming from, but it does leave the forum as a place to praise the products, not to complain about anything.
Peter is well known, it is suprising that he was not asked to check the Hunter out.

Re: AlphaSim Hunter pics
Chris, I think that basic modelling requirements, like studying the photographs of the cockpit layout in Pilot's Notes were not paid enough attention. I posted my first impressions here because an interest was expressed in hearing them (perhaps by you?). I'm really not going to go over there and start a war about an expensive payware model and as I dislike working on .air files and already have a super freeware Hunter by Dave G, I don't wish to get involved in making improvements. I purchased the product in case it was good and I posted my early findings here because this is the forum where I post! My motive in posting was quite simply to give friends here a "Heads Up" so that they might consider more carefully before spending their hard earned money.Chris H wrote:Would you be interested in posting this over at the Alphasim forums Peter? I'm wound up in a lot of projects here at the moment and will be hard pressed to find time or enthusiasm to do much more flying in this Hunter. However, I will try to fit in some more detailed test flights and make a list of what I feel is incorrect. I won't publish it here but may pass on my results privately to those seriously interested.
