Week Four of the Staff RTW Tour...

Post by petermcleland »

Week Four is the final week of the circumnavigation and has three legs, two long and one short...The first takes us on from Helsinki, Finland across Sweden and Norway and then crossing the Norwegian Sea to cut across the southern edge of Iceland. Then over more ocean to cross the southern tip of Greenland at Cape Farewell. Crossing yet more ocean to arrive at our first stop at Goose Bay, Newfoundland. Another long leg the next day across Canada and the U.S.A. all the way to Portland, Oregon. The Staff get two Standover days there before we fly our last leg on to McLeland Field on Saturday.

As I set course for this long flight, here is a good view back at Helsinki Airport.

Well the approach was epic as I got behind a stream of military jets...So many that ATC actually lost me while vectoring me for a visual onto runway 34. They cancelled my flightplan and I map read back for the approach. Here I'm on finals...

Image
My flightplan is successfully locked to my GPS today so I can concentrate on other things as we cross the watery terrain of Canada.

Image
Ahhh Bliss!...looking ahead I can see that we are moving out of default scenery and into Holger Sandmann terrain, as we descend towards Portland. That is the Columbia River ahead.

A bit murky in places...

Touching down and noting that my mate is in already!

That is FSNav Paul...I've used it for many years. I use it to make all flight plans and I use the moving map just for that. I don't use its autopilot. The map is set to appear on my second monitor and I find it extremely convenient :)

Ah ok, I wondered if it might be FSNav; its something I've toyed with getting for a while.

Thanks. :)
