Re: Colin McRea in a fatal helicopter accident?
What a terrible week-end this is turning out to be with two fatal crashes.
My heartfelt sympathies go out to all families.
Just only hope that today is an incident free one, the very thought of the saying 'It all comes in threes' does not materialise.
Nigel.

I used to be an optimist but with age I am now a grumpy old pessimist.

Terrible, terrible week-end.
Cannot find the words, but echo the sentiments already expressed.

Re: Colin McRea killed fatal helicopter accident.
I have removed the question mark from this post as it is now certain that Colin was one of four who died in the crash. Spanish TV has already run an obiturary this morning, although the official announcement is still awaited.
A tragic loss, but let us remember that he had a life most of us can only dream of, our real thoughts should be with his poor family.

Both are great losses - Unfortunatly it came almost as a postscript to one of the most deadliest Reno Air Races on record - three seperate accidents with
four fatalities
Leif
four fatalities

To every one else,it certainly does look like we've lost one of the Great British Sporting heroes of the past 20 years.
No one is saying that he's phoned to say it was his helicopter, but he wasn't flying in it.
Here's to you Colin and Brian Brown, the Hurri pilot :drinkers: :drinkers: .Many thanks for the times you've thrilled me,made me cheer you on and made me be proud to be British.
Fast stage times and clear blue skies forever.

Re: Colin McRea dies in a helicopter accident
As it has now been confirmed I thought I'd add this picture of Colin from this year's Goodwood Festival. The immediate previous shot I have of him coming round the first corner is too blurred because the autofocus couldn't keep track of his sideways antics! A great loss to motorsport at a time when the lunatics have taken over the asylum and sport has been consigned to the history books.

Re: Colin McRea dies in a helicopter accident
So many similarities to Bertie Fishers death. I remeber Colin's dad... Jimmy, the Tarmac legend, then when Colin won the WRC, a very talented guy, and a terrible loss of the other people and two five year olds. A real tragedy. :-(
Ben.

Re: Colin McRea dies in a helicopter accident
Bertie Fisher, strewth I'd forgotten about him.Very similar circumstances.
He used to drive "The Chequered Flag" Lancia Stratos.Always wore a driving shoe on one foot and a pump(plimsoll) on the other.

Re: Colin McRea dies in a helicopter accident
Truly sad news,
When I heard about this yesterday it shook me, he was a legend in Rallying and that is the second legend lost in Rallying recently (Richard Burns)
A truly sad day for all concerned, and condolences to the families involved.
