Slow loading after SP1 update for FSX

Hi all

Having applied SP1 update, FSX now takes significantly longer to load up for a flight than pre SP1. I have done all the usual, de-fragged the drive before & after update but it seems to take an eternity.

Has anyone else experienced similar probs?

Mainly affects my son aged 12 who likes FSX, I tend to fly in FS9 as I tend to fly some of the classics from CBFS there and some of the detailed british airports from JF.

How long are you talking Chris? Time it from clicking the Fly Now button to being ready to go.

Do you have any of the VFR scenery packages installed?

Did you delete your FSX.cfg and allow the simulator to re-build it?

Hi Chris

Disable your Virus scanner when running FSX.

Thats what was making mine take 20 minutes to load FSX with GenerationX.

Now loads in about 45 seconds.

Certainly a good idea to rebuild the .cfg file mate

TBH, I've not noticed FSX any slower (or faster for that matter) after installing SP1. In fact, FSX still loads faster than FS9 on my pc :shock:

Hi All

Thanks for response. Time to load is somewhere between 5 to 15 mins from the time the Fly Now button is hit.

Hadn't deleted the FSX.cfg file & allowed re-build, will try that.

Will also try disabling Virus scanner as well Rick.

Will report back later.

Excuse ignorance guys but where do I find the fsx.cfg file, I can't seem to locate it!!

I can find a Config folder with 21 files in it.

The easiest way is to just use the windows search function to look for it, however if you want to go digging it's usually located in C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX

SEARCH HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS needs to be enabled if you want to search for it.
You will also want to enable hidden files and folders in the folder options menu.

Are you running Vista? as the path is different.
