Quick question about alpha channels

Post by Quixoticish »

A model I'm repainting appears to become transparent when I apply an alpha-channel. This is a bit of a pain as I'm trying to complete a high-gloss finish; is there any way to apply an Alpha that won't make the aircraft semi-visible?

Alphas can be for transparency or for shine

This is set in the model

Sounds like the model can't support alpha shine so I'm afraid you can't do it, unless the model is changed by the author to support it.

Ah well, thanks anyway Garry. I guess I should have checked before starting the repaint.

Hi Chreis

Is it quite an old model?

You might get away with making up a colour that looks like the metal

AFIAK, only pure black makes the aircraft go transparent. You could try a dark grey, and it should just be reflective.

I think...

It's Kaz Ito's Lightning that I'm trying to repaint in a glossy paint scheme, and unfortunately any measure of alpha makes it semi-transparent, even a very slight shade of grey.

I just wondered....yep as I said earlier transparent of grey but not both

Solid black would make is either invisible of chrome plated but that is determined by the model

All I can suggest is try and make a metal looking texture a bit dull and used...but I guess that is what you already have

No matter how much you dress it up it still screams Ito unfortunately so I can live without it for the time being. Repainting it was enjoyable anyway.

Thanks again for the help chaps.

This is Ito's, it's as close as I can get it to an F1. I got rid of that inky bluish hue by reducing the saturation.

I only have integrated graphics but it seems to come up shiny enough.
