The Argonaut is now ready for limited use for those interested. A few of the aircraft are still based overseas but at least 3 are at Manchester and one will be at Heathrow (when I've landed it)

Recommended model is JBK's recent v2 (available from allnodes) though there are problems with this FD. A work in progress update by one of our members is available HERE . Backup your DC4M aircraft.cfg and airfiles and drop the enclosed files into your DC4M folder

FSNav settings as follows..
Cruise Speed: 195kts
Climb Speed: 180kts
T/D Speed: 100kts
Altitude: 16000ft
RoC: 800fpm
RoD: 800fpm
Cruise Fuelburn: 865kgh
Climb Fuelburn: 980kgh
Descent Fuelburn: 585

Please note that these settings are for the WIP patch above and offer a degree of safety as the files are WIP Climb is based on 2500/+9 and cruise is based on 2650/+5 at FL160. For descent, reduce the throttle/boost to +0.
If you use Jens original files.. there is an increase in fuelburn between 3000rpm (takeoff) and 2500rpm (climb) which shouldn't happen. The above file gets rid of this anomaly but a tradeoff is that the model is slightly fast.
Note also that I have restricted my ops to FL160 which is high enough for most operations. You WILL clear the Swiss Alps at this height though the correct safety height is FL183. Ultimately, the choice is yours.. the settings above are for your guidance only. As with any aircraft.. DO NOT fly 'Live' if you are not au fait with it

Feel free to use whichever files you're comfortable with. The file above will be updated as updates occur

Important..
By the nature of the aircraft.. the routes available are mostly longhaul so don't think about flying it unless you're prepared to spend many hours up front OR use x2, x4. The route network is already quite extensive and very far reaching

Dont know if I missed any updates or anything but my Argonaut has neither a transponder or a working COMM 1.

Anybody?

Did download the revised files as above but now only have the BOAC livery available in FS9.

Hi Johnny,

That config was as sent by the chap who modded it for us and for reasons known to him, he renumbered the aircraft entries as [fltsim.1], [fltsim.2], [fltsim.x] e t c. Open the aircraft.cfg and renumber the entries to read 0, 1, 2 e t c (remove the x's and add consecutive numbers) and your other aircraft will show ;-) Comm1 works on my setup mate though try as I might.. I can't find a transponder anywhere. This is the default DC3 radio so I guess it doesn't have one. Will look on one of my old pc's for ya ;-)

You will note the Transponder section says =1 and yet the original DC3 file is listed as =0. I'm not sure what will happen if you change it back to =0 if ATC ask you to sqwark a code but to my mind, =0 is exactly what the entry should read.. not =1.

There's no problem in NOT having a Transponder Johnny. When ATC asks you to sqwark.. acknowledge and you'll still get radar contact ;-)

LOL thanks for that but I've decided to end my career as an Argonaut Captain. I'm not sure who usually flys them but I had a peach of a return trip to Manchester as the A/C had 2000+ Kg in the tanks.........fantastic profit margin.

I did actually top it up and tried to return it to EGLL with almost the same ammount in it, just to be fair LOL.

Does that info go for Radar Contact? Once they pass you over to departure they want you to squawk their assigned transponder code and if you don't its like a record with the needle stuck.

I even went into FSPanel and tried to add one, and failing that, shamefully tried to add the radio stack from a 747......which needless to say did NOT work.

My radio settings in the cfg are the same as yours but COMM 1 still not working. Have decided to remove it from FS9 and FSX as too problematic.

Going to have a go at installing the HS748 in FSX and see what happens.

I have to admit the radios do seem a little odd on the Argonaut. Some times they work and others.. it's as if they have a standby faciility that's not in the cfg :roll:

I've only tried using the non-existant transponder with M$ ATC and we all know how reliable THAT is I don't have the dedicated 'Radar Contact' prog I'm afraid but if you want to continue with the Argonaut, I'll be happy to add a transponder to the panel and upload details for you ;-)

I love the concept of the Argonaut and would dearly love to spend more time flying it.. especially as it's one of the 'Piston Prop' fleet I look after. However, I can't get on with it.. no matter how hard I try so only fly it when a) I'm completely at a loss for something to fly or b) to keep my TR up to date :-(

There is something soul destroying about THAT panel! It sucks the enjoyment right out of you.

And the fact that the co-pilot looks like a blow-up doll, whilst the captain looks quite human...........Airplane the movie?

I like the model and the way it handles, it is VERY forgiving.

I don't like to knock freeware Johnny but that comment above is so the way I feel too. Jump out of DM's Trident into that and you almost want to die I did at one point start downloading all the shots I could find of DC4 flightdecks off Airliners with a view to trying to make the plot a little more lifelike but lost the will to continue. The shots aren't of a high enough resolution really but I might revisit it again in the future. Don't hold your breath though.. fly at night instead ;-)
