Bad luck there; they said he may have scooped a bird into one of the engines. Here is one of the angels during happier times.

Would be a terrible coincidence if it was a bird ingested into the engine. I was watching a live feed from the Barksdale AFB airshow yesterday, and Thunderbird #2 also suffered a bird strike. It made an emergency landing, and they had to continue the show with 5 jets.

Two incidents in a matter of around half an hour, to both of the USA's demonstration teams. :shock:

I fear that the photo suggests a surge, about which you can do nothing at low altitude and/or airspeed. What a tragedy.
