Timepiece sugestion

Every good pilot needs a cracking timepiece so I'm in the market for a new watch and was wondering what the smart British pilots wear

At first I was very impressed, would look very nice on the old wrist...

Then I googled it and saw the price tag!!!!

Just a couple of quid out of my price range :sad:

TBH even a cheap digital tells the time and can have a dual time zone, stop watch, date, day

But of course I'm tight

Agreed. Any pilot worth his mettle has a watch with the following functions -

1) Stopwatch
2) Timer
3) Dual Timezone (one local, one Zulu)
4) Good night lighting
5) 24-hour format

You need the stopwatch and timer for your IFR procedures, dual timezone & 24-hour format to save having to do mental calculations while flying, and the night lighting so you can see it in the dark cockpit and light the instruments when the electrical fails...

The Breitling Avenger Seawolf has none of the above features, thus it's worthless to a pilot.

The Avenger Chrono has most of the features needed though, maybe you should look at that if you want to spend some money. I personally have an Armitron that cost me $20.00 at WalMart and does all of the above and even has a good alarm system that lets me set up to 3 alarms at the same time to make sure I wake up just before it's time to land.

I have to have two, a nice one my gran brought me for my 18th for nights out and a battered cheap thing for work where it's very likely to get smashed.

I do like a posh watch though, I had dealings with a very rich bloke who had a watch which glittered and glistened with all the diamond in the face. I couldn't take my eyes off it. It was incredible.

That and the 200 grand car he had to go with it... Jammy git.

Try the Breitling emergency,It will send out a distress signal if you are ever unfortunate enough to need it,and has been proven to work when needed.

Now that Breitling is some lovely watch!!

One day I may get around to having another but in the mean-time I'll just stick to my trusty Timex which my dear wife bought me 25 years ago and it only loses a minute in three months!!! (Routinely checked with the Rugby Clock we have at work).

Cannot for the life of me bear to part from it even though she wants to buy me another (sentimental or just plain stuborn)?

Had a few watches in my time, but my all-time favorite is my Omega Speedmaster Professional (1972) with the NASA accreditation on the back (First watch worn on the moon).

Very readable in all lighting conditions, manual wind-up and still very accurate.

I love the Omega Planet Ocean, but 1, Cannot afford it and 2, Even if I could don't go anywhere worth wearing it!
