Cat on the prowl

Post by Paul K »

My latest acquisition is Alphasim's PBY Catalina package, and I'm enjoying her a lot. She comes in various flavours and guises, this one being the PBY-5A version ( the one with wheels ) in Coastal Command colours. She has to be one of the easiest aircraft to trim for level flight that I've ever come across in FS. Her sound pack is okay-ish, but for real radial gurgles I've aliased her to the MAAM R4D / C-47. A great addition to anyone's FS9 collection, I think, though the Aerosoft Catalina might prove better for FSX-ers.

Lovely shots Paul

Just a few tweaks to the model could have made it look MUCH better but there you go.. Alphasim do not have the beta team we have here

Tks for posting

Yes, the wires are a bit much aren't they. What other ways would you say the model could be improved, Dave ? Gary ?

Not really knowing the type in great detail I can only say really the aerials look heavy and generally the texture looks a little lifeless, but that is hard to tell of a few screenshots

Off the top of my head Paul.. I'd say the frame on the bubbles is a bit heavy. Been a while since I've looked close at the model but that springs to mind

Yes, having looked at a number of photos on the web just now, I'm inclined to agree with you there Dave. That said, I wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't mentioned it, so its not too obvious a clanger...well, not to my Spec-Saver'd eyes anyway.

I posted these on another forum for a mate from the Netherlands who is a great fan of the PBY, so I thought I would add them here too. The first one is the VC which is okay-ish

These two are the Dutch Catalina with the 'civilian' nose, flying over Balikpapan in what was once the Netherlands East Indies.
