I used to have a pair of Bengalese Finches, they laid eggs ages ago and then I had 3. One died a few months ago and I was left with two again.....

Despite my efforts to discourage breeding Ive now got 4!

What do you expect them to get up to, if they're stuck in a cage together for most of their time?

If you let them out to fly around the room, and they're dynamic, you could always call them the Syncro Pair!

Afraid not, Toby! Mark is finding out what happens to Nature when Man intervenes. To ensure healthy evolution fresh DNA has to be introduced to the gene pool. But because Mark won't let them go out on a Saturday night to meet other finches, they are interbreeding. They are having to mate with parents, siblings or offspring

So any slight mutations in the DNA will be magnified with each successive generation and will create a sub-standard sub-species of Finch which will eventually become extinct (ref: Darwin's Galapagos finches).

The warning sign will be when they start whistling "duelling banjos" (from Deliverance). At that stage Mark will either have to introduce them to some fresh meat - OR - do the job himself
