My Dad forwarded a news video of the new Cold War Museum at Cosford, which opens shortly.
Thought it might be of interest.

I'm only 20 miles away & can't bring myself to go there again.
I hope the ghost of airliners past visits and knocks it down.

Agreed. I live miles away and the only reason I bothered going was because you could get up right close to the airliners, hell Ive got a picture of me aged about 5 sitting in the engine of the 707

The other exhibits were a just bonus.

Ah, it was a moment or two before I could figure this statement out but if I recall correctly, they were not very nice to my favorite aircraft! Are these the folks who dumped a fine Trident from the Museum?

Yep, on our side of the pond, we have similarly brilliant minds deciding what should stay and go... I sure hope I get a chance to come visit you chap's over there. I've wanted to see England my whole life and have not yet been able to make it. Perhaps the Band can be a fine reason to come see.....

I believe that it's all British Airway's fault. Cosford had an agreement with them that for hosting ex-BA airliners, they would get first refusal on any future BA retirements.
Concorde is retired and what happens? Cosford is completely overlooked when the airframes are distributed around the world.
Please, vent your spleens at British Airways, not at Cosford. Had British Airways supplied a Concorde to Cosford, the rest of the fleet would still be there.
British Airways have since announced that they will only serve London in the future, selling off all of their British regional services.
I'm quite happy to state here, that following this 'I vow never to set foot in another BA aircraft'

They had done so for years for which we should be grateful.

They would not have sent a Concorde there as they knew the collection had no future.

Cosford want to concentrate on RAF. so Concorde is no good to them.

It is a pity the aircraft were not saved but nothing was done and the warnings were ignored until the end.

BA did not have to support a collection of old aeroplanes but they did....for years.

If BA had not then many of they members here would never have see a Standard VC 10, Boeing 707-420 or a Trident IC......well not a good one.

I am not supporting BA but trying to put some balance on this.

Those aircraft belonged to BA and it was up to them what they did with them even if is was not the wish of the aviation world.

It was a very sad time and very wrong that it should have been allowed to happen. But everyone stood back hoping that someone else would step in or it wouldn't happen.

To attack BA after they supported the collection for years is not fair to them.

Qantas can buy back their very first 707 AND restore it to flying condition.

BA seemingly ignores it's heritage and allows the collection to be dispersed in bits or scrapped.

It says a lot about the relative values shown by the two airlines. No doubt there will be many 'reasons' for the action, or lack of it, by BA but the real one is they just don't want to spend the money in order to maximise their profits.

Corporate Greed Rules OK........... :sad:

Hmm.. emotive subject this :think:

Curators come and go.. descision makers come and go. Having the BA Museum (and fleet) at Cosford has been a bonus for years but, in the words of someone totally unknown.. all good things come to an end. With Cosford getting 'Museum Status'.. eg, you don't have to pay to get in.. there is no longer any importance put on who actually comes 'through the gates' as it were so it could be the biggest museum in the world with an example of every aircraft ever flown, or end up with what it has now.. a fine collection of military aircraft.
The only possible place for Cosford to make additional money (any money) is via their online shop, or from the cafe and shop at the museum so I guess that they have all their collective egg's in one basket and hope that present funding continues and similar numbers will continue to 'sign in' and spend money on their over-prices wares.

I certainly don't wish the organisation any ill harm.. nothing but success but I honestly can't see why I'd be going there again now that the civilian aircraft have gone. It's strength (for me) was it's variety.. something now sadly gone :sad:

You can blame BA all you like but I don't recall seeing Cosford banging any money on the table to save these aircraft either :-$
