Another possible black spot

Post by DaveB »

Hi Guy's,

I took a 'Super' down to Carthage yesterday and all went well. The trip back was a bit of a nightmare as I had flightsim lock out twice in exactly the same place. I couldn't get a high level jetway (or a low level one for that matter!) so the route was planned nav to nav taking me to the southwest of Nice. I've been to Nice loads of times before without problems but the sim threw an error message about an hour out just as I hit the coast. Tried a second time using slightly different parameters but the same happened.
In the end, I let FSNav plot the course then modified it to fly east of Cagliari and well east of Nice and managed to get back in one piece in the early hours of this morning!

As I said, the outbound flight was fine.. just the return I had the probs on

Dave _ I hate to tell you this, but I downloaded and tried out the new Super VC10 on an EGLL - EDDF sector and after about 1 hours flight it just disappeared - didn't lock up - just went from the screen . I have a nasty feeling this is a problem with the update

I have flown the VC10 (as always) for about 4 hours in Africa no troubles at all...I seriously doubt that there's any fault with the aircraft...

A difficult one to nail down for sure

On my flight back from EDDF in 'GB' this evening, I didn't notice FSNav had routed me via Liege and once more, that flight bugged out. Routing 30-odd miles to the south on the second attempt and I was fine and I have no 'known' addon's in this area. This particular black spot applies to all aircraft I've flown in the region so I can't blame that on the VC10  The outbound leg routes lower.. via St Hubert and this is far enough not to cause a problem. Perhaps under the circumstances Chris, the Liege triangle (Liege, SPI and a-n-other) was the cause of your disappearance??

Indeed, Dave, I was just coming up to Liege when it went. I did have this trouble up near Dean Cross about 6 months ago, using the Trident, but the problem cured itself

Ahh.. I did wonder

Thing is.. I'm sure I've flown here in the past and not had a problem so why the hell is it happening now  Both John Hinson and Hobby have had difficulties in exactly the same spot (the other VOR is LNO - OLNO btw.. came to me in a spurt of inspiration) and now you so there has to be a link. It's just a matter of finding it!!

Do you use FSNav by any chance?? The first indication I have of the brown stuff about to hit the fan (no.. it's already hit the fan) is that my second monitor.. the one with FSNav goes black (though I can still see the desktop around the sides of the FSN window) and the sim has effectively frozen. I see mucho HD activity and eventually, the infamous FS9 error box appears followed by one for the FlyNET client. All is not well in the garden even after flightsim has closed as I still see lights on my GoFlight GF45 unit so I end up having to restart the sim then close it when I get to the 'select flight' page. The GF45 isn't responsible as I got an error in the same area without it. Perhaps a test flight using the native flight planner would be in order?? I'll try it if I get the time

Hi Dan,

I'm pretty certain that is the same as mine. I dived in before it went to the dark side

Dan (et-al),

As a follow-up to the possible FSNav prob.. I searched my current install yesterday and couldn't find any sign of Airac0608 (I don't think I reinstalled it after loading the latest FSN version) so I pulled it off Avsim (search AIRAC 0608 and choose the files for FSNav) and installed it. I did a 45min test flight with routing over the 'Liege Triangle' and fsim didn't spit me out. It's not conclusive by any means but this is the first time I've knowingly flown over that area and come out the other side unscathed.

When I get an opportunity, I'll take a 'Super' down to Carthage again and see if installing 0608 has fixed the problem I got in the SW Nice area
