gah! serious RAM issue

Post by hinch »

well i've bought some RAM - a nice bit of 512 for my system. i ran the test on crucial.com to determine what i need, fine fine.

'# Available Memory Slots: 1
# Number of Banks: 3'

i have the RAM, go to put it in aaaand...no free slots. i check my manual in a miffed mood and sure enough, 3 slots.

serial number from the manufacturers website:

'Memory Type: DDR 400 / 333 / 266 support. Max capacity: 2 GB. DIMM slots: 3'

so, anyone care to point it out because i don't believe either of them?

Sure its the right model? Sometimes there are variations of the motherboard and there different versions should be listed in the manual. Check the model number printed on the actual mobo.

Had a quick search around, and it looks like the 'PM' version is a micro ATX board, as opposed to the 'P' which is a standard ATX board. Being a smaller board they had to leave some bits off.

And the second character in the motherboard designation is an I not a 1 (one) which might have given you a better steer. (And I only know this from buying m'boards off eBay and finally figuring this out).

I'm guessing from my searches that this motherboard is in a Fujitsu-Siemens PC?

So it is OEM and hence does not feature at the Gigabyte websites.

But looking at what I have found, two RAM slots it is.

Best description I found was at eBay:
