Pegasus Airlines Viking

Post by Garry Russell »

Another couple of liveries...this time from Pegasus Airlines who operated three Vikings. One came from Hunting-Clan and the other two from Central African Airways

At least these two liveries were in use but I have not seen a pic of the third aircraft so have no idea how that one was painted

Image

G-AJBT was one of the ex CAA machines. The pull down on the front of the black tail band is quite deliberate and was a part of their livery

Image

Another shot of G-AJBT as it drifts in for a greaser

Image

G-AHOY can from Hunting Clan and was one of the last UK operated Vikings with Invicta after a spell with Autair.

Uploaded to Classic British Files, Flightsim.com and Simviation

Garry,

I've just found a photo of G-AHPL in the "British Independent Airlines since 1946" volumes that were published by LAAS in 1976.

Same scheme as G-AJBT. I'll scan the black and white photo and send it to you.

Hi Ian

TBH I guessed it might be as it was the other one that came from the same source

The tail bands look like over-painted CAA markings and the reg pulled right forward to the LE curve on the fin was also a CAA detail.

Do you or anyone know what colour Maitland Drewery was.

I have two tone blue in my head but I can't actually fix a memory if seeing one in a book and certainly too early to remember for real if I ever saw one.

Thanks

Having a look for you (got a black and white of G-AJBX).

But found this site:

http://www.save-a-viking.org/de/vikings_bsl.html

and other areas on the site. Could keep you busy.

I remember D-BONE and D-BORA of Condor at Heathrow

Edit:

To save me scanning in G-AHPL, look here

http://www.abpic.co.uk/photo/1011127/

Another Eagle: http://www.abpic.co.uk/photo/1013128/

And there's a few more Vikings if you search.

2nd edit:

Photo in same book of G-AHPR in Maitland colours that look same as Viscount here: http://www.abpic.co.uk/popup.php?q=1005498

Previously mentioned G-AJBX is in a less dramatic scheme.

Thanks for that Ian

All the British ones there are already in my active folder and being worked on.

But there were a couple of different angles

I have four Eagles part done with the crest to sort

At the moment I am working on Orion Airways which pics of are rare as they were only on the go from 1957-1960 and not photographed often

It's an over painted Eagle livery.

You mean one of these:

And previous mentions of:

If you want the bigger BMP files for reference:

This Ian MacFarlane would be a useful guy to know.

Hi Ian

The Orion is not quite like that and is finished apart from the titles etc

I have black and whites of Maitland Drewery It the colours I need for both this and a Viscount paint I have been trying to do for a year.

The only thing I am short of is the Maitland Drewery colours on their fulll livery..the bottom pic

Everything else I'm doing is covered but I just need to get arround to it.

It seemed quite common to have different versions of the same livery on different aircraft

The two Pegasus I just did only have the main wings and upper fuse stripe from the cockpit back common to both.

Everthig else.....spinners, titles bottom of cheatline, fin, tailplane underfuse.....all different.

The Orion I am doing is the full overpainted Eagle livery. That one there has a different fin.

Ian

or anyone

Have you seen that Orion in real life od in colour

It looks like the fin is the same as the cheatline

If it is I can bung it out with the full bloodied one I'm doing now

That would be Emerald green (ish)
