Hi (David)
The right moment to start the engines, might that be before or after the push back?.....
(I know it is preferable before takeoff, likewise lowering the wheels before touchdown....)
And if you read this, I might turn your attention to my question in the Aircraft&Crew ..regarding applied reverse trust with a shut-down engine.. ;-)
A VC10 question..

Before Dan.
Unless I'm completely misguided, starting engines after pushback was only a fuel saving measure from the airlines.
If you start up first, you could end up sat there burning fuel because of some unforseen delay.
Yes the reversers are rubbish.
If I ever update it again I will sort them out.
I'm not really into the long rangers at the moment.

Hi Dan
The way I read it is that it should be done before
But some airlines started after in case they were left standing burning loads of fuel
I thought though at first at least VC 10's were GPU started......I don't know if they always had APU's
I just remember seeing adverts for Air Starters as supplied to BOAC for their VC 10's.
Having never seen a ten on stand and only ever seen one distant landing and two take offs I've never really studied their start procedure
I have seen lots of aircraft the start before push back and then push back part way trough the start.
Concorde could only start two until after push back and disconnection because all four on idle could bend the bar.

The Concordes had no APU either, that's why they started at least one engine from ground power before pushback. Was it ever LOUD at Terminal 4 when they did that though!
The RAF don't push back the Tens at Brize these days, at least I've not seen them do it. When 101 Sqdn. used the South dispersal all the a/c were parked diagionally on the pans, so they left in the same direction as they taxied in.
At some time the C1s must have parked on the North Terminal though and I can't see how they could have got off there without a pushback. Anyone else ever noticed that routine?
