I agree Peter

A technical note on VCs in FSX...

Just incase anyone wishes to Add DM's Trident or any other add-on aircraft into the FSX demo, there is a small fix required in the Model folders...Goto here:-
X:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\HS121 Trident 3\model.VC\model.cfg
open that file in Notepad and edit as follows:-
[models]
normal=TRI3VC
interior=TRI3VC
It is that last line that I have added ("interior=" and the model name as in the first line).
Don't forget to go File > Save
I also did the other Model file here to be sure:-
X:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\HS121 Trident 3\model\model.cfg
[models]
normal=TRI3
interior=TRI3
Note that the Airplanes folder in SimObjects is where you add aircraft and do not forget to add this folder:-
X:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\DMFS Shared Files
with all it's contents.
So in summary to add the Tridents to the FSX Demo you simply copy three folders from your FS9...
DMFS Shared Files
HS121 Trident 2
HS121 Trident 3
No need to search for gauges as they are all in those folders.
You place those three folders here:-
X:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes
If you want to make it look nice with smoke then copy the three
DM_TRI_SMOKE_.... files from the FS9\Effects folder to the FSX\Effects folder.
For a VC to show, you need to modify any added aircraft's model.cfg as described above.
Please Note that this will not be necessary in the Gold version...It is only required in Beta3 and the Demo :dance:

Peter just let out another of the new "secrets" of FSX - two models, one interior and one exterior.
That means that David and Rick can stop building VCs again.
But it also means that we need to prepare to see 30 variations on the default aircraft cockpits as VCs and some yahoos putting Cessna VC's in 747s.

Does that mean someone can just make a VC model as a seperate entity and add it to an existing folder
of a model made by someone else and it would show as a VC of the original model?

Yes Garry. There will be separate interior and exterior models. When someone builds an FSX-optimized model, they will build an exterior model and an interior model. The primary reason for this is the size of the model files now (almost 8MB each), but it has the side effect of allowing the duties to be split so that someone like Rick or David who aren't huge on building VCs to just build the model and then someon who's good at that kind of stuff (like Book) to build the VC and Panel and add them in later.

Thanks for the expanation Chris
I suppose like anything else it will be down to how it's done
No doubt there will be good ones and cowboys
And of course the existing model builder can still do it all but they would be making two seperate models.

Most model builders make two models anyway. They are just combined into one mdl at compile time.
BTW, I don't think the dual model feature is available in the demo, just the beta. I just checked the model.cfg on the defaul Baron, and it only shows the normal entry. Also all add-ons I've tried so far show the VC without adding anything to the model.cfg.

Peter : be adventurous - the VC is actually very nice to fly, and you can position yourself ideally for landing with the seat high up and suitable zoom. Also, the right hand seat view is very pleasant for a change - it will take you back more than 30 years!

Hi Dave G
All the types I have tried in the demo have had VC's as normal
So it looks like the demo is different in that respect.
