VC10 routes VHHH or VHHX
Before we add VC10 service to Austrailia via Hong kong we need to decide which Hong Kong airport we want to use.
Historically BOAC used Kaitak but that airport is now closed and if the flight was going to be flown today the new airport would have been used.
In the default scenery for Kaitak still exists as a closed airport, the runways are marked with yellow X's and there is no ATC or approaches, however I installed Jim Vile's kaitak98.zip package available on flightsim.com and this adds it back and is pretty good, it includes ILS approaches, the checker board on the hills and a pretty detailed airport.
So we need to decide which is going to be our official terminal in Hong Kong, I think both choices have merrit, but what do others think.

Joe Cusick,

I am serious, and don't call me Shirley.

Actually as you stated in the other thread, there's no physical reason not to use both VHHH and VHHX, as they will appear as two separate airports. And therefore the traffic wont conflict.
I can approve of whatever, thus I'm more to KatIak (VHHX) as you might have guessed....(!)
But I'll go with the flow, although I would consider it the best solution to have both HongKong's available, one of them as an alternative...
That's my opinion.

Hi Guys
I think I'd rather go for one or the other not both. My reasons are just in case someone selects the wrong flight by mistake and then lands at the wrong airport by mistake. Remote, but possible. The fact that there is a good freeware scenery to get KaiTak operational doesn't exclude anyone going there if that is choice of airport - just don't hit the hills or high rise apartments.
Dan, just a thought. Would you be better off turning your AI down and then work the setting back up as you get experience of the airports on the routes. Saves bringing your PC to it's knees just when you want it at full speed
Rgds

Btw. come to think about it, I think Jim's scenery includes a possibility to remove the new VHHH, and replacing it with the old VHHH (now VHHX).
So in fact you could keep only the VHHH code, and it would be up to the Pilot if he (or she) wanted to go KaiTak or Chek Lap Kok)
If you remove the new VHHH and replaces it with the old VHHH, FLYNet will not regard it as another airport.
Just a thought, but takes a little mending for the Pilot. (but if you really want to fly KaiTak, I guess you are willing to do the work as well...)

whoops...just read the readme on that (You always should before bragging about)....
His removal procedure removes VHHH, and thus the only Hong Kong airport will be VHHX....that must be a NOGO then....unless anyone comes up with another idea?....I'll go into the box, and see what I can dig out of this old brain....

John,
There is also the Kai Tak 1963 scenery from Jim & Tom Gibson (of CalClassic fame) which has the airport as it was when BOAC was serving it with the Super VC-10 and does remove Chek Lap Kok
The scenery -

The Approach Procedures -

Finally the previously mentioned "modern" scenery of Kai Tak from Jim -

Yes there is indeed, that is up to the individual if you want to use either the '63 or the '98 version, both come out with the "ICAO" code VHHX.
The removing method of VHHH is the same for them both and it removes the VHHH.....so scheduled flight to VHHH that lands in VHHX are doomed to fail....I can't come up with a simple method to change the VHHX code to VHHH unless you want to reprogram the AFCAD's but of cause it could be done, but it is a non-trivial task to layman....
The issue here is that if you want to use Kai Tak as your VHHH airport you have to do some tweaking. other wise you could as previous mentioned have the VHHH (the new) with the VHHX (the old) as an alternative...but that raises some issues to whether or not some would accidentally land in the wrong airport as stated by John above....
