DM's VC10 IAS hold problem

Post by dom1 »

I'm using DM's VC10 and I can't seem to get the IAS (or Mach) hold to work on the autopilot - I engage it and the pitch seems to stay where it is, speed increases or decreases as if I hadn't done anything at all... I've reread the manual several times and can't work out what I'm doing wrong. I've done tests in flight, setting new IAS hold figures at differing pitch and speeds using the datum adjust but it seems determined to ignore me...

Anyone else had this problem?

er...that's right, IAS hold is a pitch hold mode, not a microsoft autothrottle, which the VC 10 don't have anyway!!

I expect our resident VC10 expert will be along shortly to explain.

Sorry Pete, I probably haven't explained myself very well - I know how the IAS hold should work and I've tested it in various scenarios to see if it will hold a given IAS (during the climb for instance) by altering the aircraft's pitch but the autopilot appears to ignore this command and the pitch doesn't alter at all while the IAS keeps increasing.

I am trying to use it as it's designed but it appears to have no effect on pitch on my aircraft...

EDIT: I've just tried it again both with the original gauge and the updated one DM posted here a short time ago to solve Mach hold issues. Still the same result, put her in a climb at a given rate (using manual trim) then switch on AP and IAS hold. I reduced power slightly to see if the plane would alter pitch to allow the speed to stay constant and no effect at all... I'm puzzled :think:

I reckon I know what's going on with this one.
If you can check a couple of things on your system Dom, that may confirm it.

In the panel.cfg file, usually in
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\DMFS Shared Files\Vickers VC10 Panel

See if you've got the autopilot bit the same as me:-
  • [Window06]
    Background_color=0,0,0
    size_mm=396,260
    window_size_ratio=1.000
    position=0
    visible=0
    ident=180
    render_3d_window=0
    window_size= 0.376, 0.305
    window_pos= 0.620, 0.700

    gauge00=DM_VC10!Autopilot, 0,115,396,145
    gauge01=DM_VC10!ICON_SWAP_AUTOPILOT, 3,234,22,22
    gauge02=DM_VC10!AT, 118,0,160,115
    gauge03=DM_VC10!AUTOPILOT_COUNTER, 1,1,1,1
My guess is that you've got an older version of the panel & it's not using the AUTOPILOT_COUNTER gauge.
It has been like that since Feb 05, but it's the only reason I can think of for your new cab file not working.
Mine is working ok, I've just had a go.

Can you also double check that your DM_VC10.cab file is dated 02/05/2006.

I'm going to update the VC10 panel download on my website tonight to include the mach hold fix.
So if you decide to download the panel again, you may as well hang on an hour or two.

David,

You're absolutely right - I had an older version which was missing the AUTOPILOT_COUNTER gauge...

I've downloaded and installed your latest version and it works a treat! Thanks very much for the quick response, great work as ever :dance:
