DM Trident textures...
Hi there,
I love everything about Mr. Maltby's wonderful model of the King of tri engined aircraft. However, I have encountered a problem in that the default textures for the 2 and 3 appear blurry instead of crisp. I have no problems with the textures on other aircraft such as Ricks 748 so I'm at a loss why the Trident ones are blurry. Toby's addon ones are fine on the Trident.
Can anyone help?
Thanks!

BT DM's textures are pretty good and tend to make my
system grunt a bit too.
They're not too bad though but are a little blurry.I put it down to my
"steam"powered system.

Yep I save everything with mips to make them blurred!
I answered something similar on AVSIM FS2004 forum only yesterday. It's generating a lot of interesting replies.
Your blurs are due to mip-maps. I don't understand why some PCs do it, but they do.
Needless to say mine doesn't, quite the opposite. Mine looks bad without mips!
Not a serious problem though.
There is a texture converter included inside the Trident's folder.
Just double click the file 'Texture Converter.bat' (in Window Explorer), select the option you need and it will convert the textures for you.
DXT3 without mips is probably the best format for you.
There is some information about it on my website.

I wish someone would get to the bottom of this blur nonsense.
If anyone knows something concrete, could you post it here.
Has anyone ever noticed what it says in the FS2004 SDK about textures saved without mips (Aircraft Container)?
I don't know what to make of it all.

Is that true?! It may explain why I get bad blurs (with or without mips) whenever I try to make a model with FSDS3 or gmax.Flight Simulator will automatically generate the mipmaps for the texture, although these mipmaps will not be of as high a quality as mipmaps created using Image Tool.

Hi DM
It will be interesting to see if FS.x handles if differently.
What I can never understand is when you save your stuff with mips on my system they are slightly blurred. Others are so blurred that the markings can not be made out.
Some even start blurred and if you cycle the veiws or zoom in and out they clean up.
It makes no sense as there is no fixed logic.
My post above though is in reference to DXT3 not mips as if they are compressed the metal will go all blotchy as the alpha 'steps' in the low resolution format.

Back in the old days me & Rick used to slightly blur our textures on purpose to force them to display sharper in FS.
How mad was that? At least we had control over it though.
Things seem to get dafter as the technology improves & I don't expect FSX will be any more predictable.
I know your post above was about something else, it said so in the words.

Another thing that bnothers me is things like this little programme thats floating arround which is supposed to make FS shine brighter and make metal gleem.
That'll ruin the work we have done.
All we can do is make for today and hope it will still be OK tomorrow
