"You must remember this" (those of my age, anyway!)

Post by Airspeed »

I was preparing breakfast the other day, when for some reason, part of the theme tune to this radio show sprang from my lips.
I think that it ceased broadcast c 1955, so I theoretically haven't heard it for a bit. :dunno:
There are some 78RPM recordings on the web, and the humour is rather dated; but seeing as it was about an RAF station, I thought it has some relevance to some of our members.

They have been running it again recently on the BBC Radio 4 Extra website.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/search?filter=pro ... ch+binding

We listen to numerous comedy shows on there every night as a way of winding down before bedtime. They have all the classics, The Navy Lark, Dad's Army, IIRTA, ISIHAC, Round the Horn, The News Quiz, Cabin Pressure, plus loads more.

This link will take you to their schedule page where you can listen to all their shows from the past week: https://www.bbc.co.uk/schedules/p00fzl7l#on-now

Fond memories. A show, amongst many of the time, without the need for foul language and smut.

When I was in Germany in '67/68 we used to look forward to the radio comedy series that were rebroadcast via BFBS. As I recall there were:
The Goon Show, Round The Horn, Jimmy Clithero, The Glums with Jimmy Edwards and June Whitfield, The Navy Lark to name just a few.

Our camp was in the middle of nowhere so the radio was our only source of entertainment.

Imagine, no mobile phones, internet, satellite TV, or even ordinary TV for that matter. How did we cope? But cope we did and managed very well thank you.
