Yes mate. This Hurricane was painted to represent the personal mount of WCdr Ian Richard Gleed, DSO, DFC, CDG(Belgium), CDG (France, posthumous). He was KIA 16 Apr '43 aged 26.

A-LK/LK-A was a regular at airshows in the UK for years (and one of my favourites). If my memory serves correct.. it suffered a crash which wrote off the aircraft and I think, killed the pilot too.

Nice job, but a sad story though. If SWMBO is out I like to turn the sound up on planes like that. Sony subwoofer is an amazing thing

Yeah.. I'm sure I missed the crash. It was only when I twigged I'd not seen the aircraft for a while I went looking online..

You can't beat a Hurricane for rugged good looks! ;)

As far as sound goes, IMHO headphones are more satisfying than speakers.
But then, there are speakers and there are speakers. *-)

I agree but I would not have liked to go into battle with it! :hide: The fuel tanks were either side of the wings and were not self sealing, when they were hit the draft sent the flames into the cockpit hence so many pilots were burnt. :((

One thing I cannot understand is that the Spitfires had thin wings and there were problems in getting the cannons to fire as they had to be installed on their sides and the casings used to jam but they eventually sorted out the problem however, with the Hurricanes wing being thicker cord route I would have thought it would have been better from the outset to have installed 2 cannons along with the 303 brownings'. They certainly would have made a mess of those bombers.

Nigel.

Interestingly I was reading a piece in 'Aeroplane' recently, by Peter Teichmann, it would appear most (pilots') would rate the Hurricane a better war-machine; it would out turn the Spitfire, the Spitfire being lighter in pitch but heavier in roll.
