Ant's Winjeel Released.
Whilst on another Forum I came across this, may certainly interest a number here as it looks very much (to me) like the old piston prop Provost. It appears to be a super aircraft and also you can download the Demo Version before deciding whether to buy or not.
Think this would interest Peter.

Re: Ant's Winjeel Released.
Hi Nigel,
cough! splutter!
It might LOOK like a piston Provost, but please see here:
http://www.airforce.gov.au/raafmuseum/e ... injeel.htm
Iss Stralian.
And just because Mr Millicer, who designed the Provost, came to Australia, and joined the Government Aircraft Factory at the time the Winjeel was designed, that doesn't mean that we copied it.
There's no mention of the Winjeel in this cut & paste about Mr M:
The Percival Provost design is attributed to Millicer. In 1950 he migrated to Australia and became chief aerodynamicist at the Government Aircraft Factories (GAF), working on the Jindivik and the Malkara missile. With two colleagues he entered a design competition sponsored by the Royal Aero Club of London for a replacement aircraft for the de Havilland Chipmunk. The Millicer team beat 103 contestants and won the competition with a design that ultimately became the Victa Airtourer. After several years of production Victa Aviation sold the rights to a New Zealand company. Millicer also had developed a slightly larger 4 place aircraft known as the AirCruiser, with one prototype built at the Bankstown NSW Victa factory and first flown in 1966. A military trainer version of this was under development at the time of the closure of the Victa operation which was subsequently converted in NZ into the PAC CT/4 military trainer.
Nearly forgot!
Thanks for the HU, Mate!

Anyway, I bought one today.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Re: Ant's Winjeel Released.
Update:
The sound was not playing correctly, and they've issued a patch, which apparently will go out with each new purchase.
It's an improvement, however, I'm still unhappy with the sound.
It has its own sound files, which individually sound OK.
With the engine running, either on the ground, or flying, I would expect wind and a louder engine & prop sound when the cockpit canopy is slid back. There's no change.
Watching from the control tower, I expect increasing engine noise, and usually, the Doppler effect as the aircraft passes. The sound is constant.
In spot plane view, sounds should vary with distance from the aircraft. They are constant.
I expected a noticeable change in sound as the airspeed increased on take off. I wasn't convinced by what I heard.
I haven't RTFM yet of course, but this is one of the very few aircraft that will go from straight & level into a loop without hesitation.
My first impression is that a heap of effort went into the visuals; for instance, hitting my autostart button takes me through a highlighted step by step highlighted procedure, culminating in the actual start up.
The operator can go through the ritual of removing pitot cover, opening engine cover panels, and shifting wheel chocks.
The emphasis on the above seems to have diverted attention from other matters. Am I being too picky for AU$25?

Re: Ant's Winjeel Released.
Next update.
No more patches planned.
Anthony tells me that to get the effect I'm looking for, I have to set sound to default FSX through animation preferences etc.

Oh dear Mike, after reading through your post I think I should have kept quiet!!
Does not sound very good, hopefully you will be able to work round these problems.

Nigel.

Surely that should have been corrected by Anthony himself rather then you?Anthony tells me that to get the effect I'm looking for, I have to set sound to default FSX through animation preferences etc.

Re: Ant's Winjeel Released.
I've tried installing the Winjeel demo, but P3Dv3 can't find it. I imagine it's something to do with the message that appears during installation, as shown below.

After clicking on 'OK' I get the message that the Winjeel has installed successfully, but it doesn't appear in the list of aircraft in the sim. No doubt this will involve me editing something manually, but until Ant drops by and sees this thread, I'll leave it be.

Re: Ant's Winjeel Released.
This is in the V1.1 Pilot's handbook, but I see that Paul has already installed V1.10
What's new in Version 1.1
- Fixed problem with sounds not playing
- Fixed throttle problems with throttle1 axis
- Installer allows Prepar3D v3 version to be installed to any user location.
- Removed custom_path option

And now, here's the bit about sound........so, no worries, Nigel,
looks like all I need do is remove his special setting:
- Custom sound system. Animation Manager-Preferences-Page 3. The Winjeel can be set to
bypass the default FSX sound system. This allows the engine sounds to more accurately simulate
changes to manifold pressure and engine RPM which is impossible to achieve with the FSX sound
system. While the custom sounds do provide better control of the engine sounds the disadvantage
is that the sounds do not respond to eyepoint position.
See Animation Manager-Preferences-Page 3 for more information.
UPDATE
He speaks the truth.
I'm happy with the default FSX sounds (Philistine, aren't I?)
The interior detail and number of choices available from the in-cockpit reference manual are amazing.
Dropping the smoke grenades in FAC mode is fun, especially scaring the boaters around Friday Harbour with them!
All I want to do now is compare the FD with a Provost model. Is there a realistic one that anybody knows of?
Ant's FD might be spot on, if so, it's an incredibly agile aircraft, which would make it a natural for the FAC role.
Put aside those earlier complaints about the sounds, and remember I got off on the wrong foot with this by buying the initial release, before the 1.10 corrections were available.
My current opinion is that this is a good looker with options galore, and I'm looking forward to lots more fun in it!

Re: Ant's Winjeel Released.
Nothing like a Winjeel!? Provost T1 for FS9, but works in FSX.
