Appreciate your thoughts on this...

Post by 233SQN »

Folks

I always rate the sensible advice on here….. so I wonder if you would cast an eye over this:

My trusty Dell has popped its clogs and I need to replace it. I always said that when the time came I would go for Chillblast Typhoon, key bits:

Intel Core i5 6400 Processor at 3.3GHz
GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB Graphics Card
8GB DDR4 2133MHz Memory
1000GB SSHD 7200rpm SSD/HDD Hybrid Hard Disk

Price £650 with Windows 10

However I’m drawn to a Dell Inspiron 3650 offer ….

6th Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6400 Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.30 GHz)
1 8GB Single Channel DDR3L 1600MHz (8GBX1)
1 1TB 7200 rpm SATA 6Gb/s Hard Drive
1 NVIDIA(R) GeForce(TM) 730 2GB GDDR3

Price £455

My normal flying is low n slow props, FSX Steam and photo scenery, I’m not into highly complicated 757s and REX etc .

Am I going to notice £200 of difference??
Thanks

The GeForce GTX 750 Ti is a much more powerful graphics card, about 4x performance by some bench marks.

Dell is a known quantity as far as reliability, not bad but not the best, I know nothing about chillablast.
Inspiron's are not known for there performance, I would look at an XPS or Alienware instead.

Full disclosure, I have an Alienware i7 laptop and have been happy with it.

Personally, I would build my own but I've only had a quick look at what's available.

I quickly knocked up the following:

Intel Core i5-6400 2.70GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151
Corsair 8GB DDR4 Vengeance LPX 2133MHz
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 750Ti
1TB Seagate HDD / 8GB SSD 3.5" Hybrid Drive
Thermaltake Versa H15 M-ATX Case
600W EVGA 80PLUS Power Supply
24x LiteOn Internal DVD-RW Drive
Microsoft Windows 10 32/64-Bit - USB Pen Drive

£522.90

Use your existing monitor, keyboard and mouse and if you have money to spare, consider some upgrades to the above such as:

Gigabyte GTX 950 + £23.29
Intel Core i5-6500 3.20GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151 + £13.60
Intel Core i5-6600 3.30GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151 + £30.53
Intel Core i5-6600K 3.50GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151 + £45.59

You could also spend £10 or so more on a slightly better motherboard and get a PCIe SSD hard drive for Windows for £66. I have one in my laptop and it is fast... bloody fast!
A bird in the hand will probably sh!t on your wrist.
