MPSigStub.exe

A question for the computer gurus on here.

Worryingly, a folder has suddenly appeared on a drive on my computer - the one on which my FSX is installed.

fcc73b2a3f58fbb0fc8fbb6d47 containing the file "MPSigStub.exe"

No idea how or where it has come from. Is is safe to remove?

Any information will be gratefully received

I did a search, and it seems MPSigStub is from Microsoft and it's something to do with Windows automatic updates.

There's a fair bit on the web about it, but from a cursory glance, it seems harmless.

I do all the auto Windows updates, but my search returned zero instances for that file.

I'm 99% sure these folders with the weird names do indeed come from Windows Updates. I get a few, more so at work where they use some fancy dooverlacky to push changes out to the machines. I usually utter a single word appreciation of Microsoft (not repeatable in these delicate environs) and delete the offender(s).

I tend to the view that if I don't what it is, I don't want it. If something I value complains then I will re-assess the value; basically, trusted software should be transparent about what it places where, and how it's named.

I have actually got rid of the offending folder (well it was offending me).

The thing that worried me was the fact that it appeared on the drive which has only FSX on it and nothing else.
If it is a genuine Microsoft "happening" they have a strange way of going about things.

From memory they sometimes use the drive with most free space so as not to screw up the OS drive.
