Hi,
I am looking for a way to add classic AI aircraft to P3d 2.4
I tried Traffic 360 and whilst I did get it to work with it's default aircraft/airlines, it doesn't seem to work with the user selected option. This has been mentioned in a review by by someone else as well so I don't think it is just me. Traffic 360 does have a few classics in there but I can't seem to utilise them.
Arriving in a Dan Air Comet at Palma Mallorca only to be met with the latest from Airbus sporting EasyJet.com and AirBerlin is just incongruous and wrong.
Does anyone know of way to get some classic late 60's/early 70's aircraft and liveries as AI?
Thanks

Hello mate and welcome to the forums
I can't comment on how things work in P3D as I don't have it but what I can say is that very few folk have anything good to say about Traffic360. Have you tried the 'old fashioned' way of adding AI in P3D.. AI models in your Airplanes folder and traffic files in Scenery\World\Scenery?
A few here use P3D so hopefully one of them will be able to add something a little more positive

Welcome to the forum, and happy New Year!
P3d traffic is pretty much the same as FSX as far as I know, so any traffic files should work OK. I don't use Traffic 360 so I can't help there I'm afraid.
You could try Cal Classics (http://www.calclassic.com/). They have a lot of retro aircraft and flightplans although they are FS9 aircraft they should work fine in P3d. The plans will be FS9 format as well, and will need converting to FSX format otherwise all other traffic will disappear.

Thanks Dave n Dave, for the welcome and Happy New Year to you too.
I think for the moment I am stuck with Traffic360....unless I want to do yet another reinstall of P3d and all the ORBX stuff. I did an uninstall of Traffic360 but it had made changes I can't reverse.
For instance, it's fuel truck was still hanging around after the uninstall and my terminal now hovers above the ground. I just re-installed it and the hovering continues. I do like the tarmac texture that comes with it....much better than any of the Rex4 offerings. So I will try and see if I can get to grips with it. I did start to get shimmering/flickering AI aircraft with the first install, which was not a good sign. Thing is, it's my own fault....JF say compatible up to I think P3d v2.1. Now I know why.
I had a look at the CalClassic website and was a bit worried that they said in big letters, for FS2004.
Also had a look at Retroai, but I'm not sure where you get the models and how/where you install them and the flight plans. Looks a bit too difficult for me as I was struggling with the Traffic360 console; doing it piece by piece would seem even harder? However I have managed to install both the JF Comet and the DM Comet into P3d and Ezdok (nightmare), so am familiar with all the fiddling with folders needed when installing FSX stuff into P3d.

Re: Classic AI for P3d 2.4
There is one possible bonus to you having Traffic360 in that Just Flight have (IMHO) one of the best support setups going. I'd try opening a support ticket with them to see if they can suggest what T360 has done that an uninstall can't change. Some of these programs.. even those rather more highly regarded, make changes to the AFD's to enable their own traffic to run (airport support traffic e t c) and it sounds like this is what has happened with T360. One would have thought uninstalling it would give you back your originals but in this case.. it appears not.
The CalClassic stuff.. while heavily marked for FS9.. should work if the traffic files are converted to FSX format. I'd be careful of their sceneries but the traffic files should be fine. Something like AIFP will convert native FS9 traffic files to FSX format in the wag of a tail and it's free!
Retro AI traffic is a little more time consuming (if I remember right) as you have to have the aircraft concerned in order for the flightplans to work. However.. using something like AIFP (or TTools) to decompile the files and see what aircraft are needed will help to set you up. Recompiling the files to FSX format (if they're not that already) and adding the models are all that will be required. I say ALL but it is time consuming.
Plan A.. go for a support ticket with JF first and see what pop's up

Re: Classic AI for P3d 2.4
Had a quick look-see over at Just Flight & it looks like Traffic 360 is for FSX & P3d v1 only, not P3d v2. There is mention of a P3dv2 compatible update in the works over at their forum, but no ETA, just "sometime after the Tornado GR1"
The Cal Classic models themselves should work fine in P3d, probably better than in FSX as there won't be any annoying problems with props and canopies disappearing behind clouds.

Re: Classic AI for P3d 2.4
Thanks guys.
Had another close look at the re-installed T360 and there is some shimmering going on with their planes, which last time got a lot worse.
I think I may ditch T360 and do a complete re-install of P3d etc.
Just to complicate things, I would really like to keep the T360 tarmac as it's so sexy. Is there a way to separate out the tarmac and markings and put them back in later after P3d re-install?
Ignore the Ryanair Magaluff convention (T360 got a bit carried away methinks) and just look at that tarmac!

Re: Classic AI for P3d 2.4
Hello Mate
Well.. the tarmac texture is a bitmap like all the others. If you can isolate which texture it is.. you should be able to make a copy. I presume that T360 backs up the original files it overwrites(or exchanges) and must keep a folder with said files in place. I can't imagine the naming convention would change from the defaults for such textures so see if you can find a backup folder within T360 and look for files with tarmac related names. These would typically be runwayXX.dds or taxiwayXX.dds or similar. If in doubt.. keep a copy of the backed up files (if one exists) as these will be your originals and also make a copy of your texture folder.
There's probably a way to isolate these airport textures easier and with more certainty but not being a scenery making type person.. I'm not sure where you'd look first

Re: Classic AI for P3d 2.4
Thanks Dave, I will have a look for that file.
In the meantime I can disable T360 by removing the underscore in the ._bgl default AI file which T360 put there when it was installed. By doing this, I get the default AI back but get to keep the tarmac. Not an ideal solution but it will do for now.
