FSX lost all aircraft and settings! Help!
FSX was working just fine yesterday. Today I fire it up and the first thing I get is messages asking to reconfirm use of FSPUIC and Accufeel etc, followed by messages saying that default aircraft and random repaints are missing.
Eventually it opens up but there are no aircraft at all (in any view) and all display settings have gone to default, although all scenery is there from what I could see.
I shut down and checked the files.... all the aircraft are there, nothing seems to have changed.
Any thoughts??

Hi Colin
Has anyone fiddled with the folder names? Are all the aircraft in the exact spelling: SimObjects/Airplanes?

Did FSX exit cleanly last time you used it, or did it crash?
Sounds like the fsx.cfg has got corrupted. Try deleting it and letting FSX build a new one. (Note, that's not the one in the main FSX folder! On Win 7 its in " C:\Users\(your user name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX". Other OS's may vary!)

As a far as I know it’s untouched.
A few more things:
Despite acknowledging to “trust” FSPUIC and Accufeel etc, it asks every time I fire up FSX.
It only aircraft warns that one aircraft (air Creation Trike in red ) can’t be found
It always defaults to the “fresh install” opening screen (ie not default flight)
All my saved flights are there but if loaded it opens (after several loading screens, I used to only get one) but no aircraft is visible and the view point seems to be in mid air.
Going to free flight screen ....there are no aircraft listed anymore (but they are in there file structure) Trying to proceed gets a warning box “aircraft initialisation failed you will now be placed in visualization only mode”
I tried a roll back, but it didn’t make any difference. I’m thinking somehow basic config file has gone missing somewhere?

Hmm.. this is odd
I would have gone for Dave's suggestion and tried to force FSX to make a new cfg but if it's asking for you to trust FSUIPC each time you open it.. it sounds like it's forcing a cfg rebuild on it's own which I don't understand.. unless you are not accepting it.
Try making a new cfg yourself and starting from scratch anyway then take it from there. Set it up how you want it then make a new flight.. don't try and use a saved flight until you have it stable. The saved flight you use as startup may be corrupt.

Re: FSX lost all aircraft and settings! Help!
When a system which has functioned well for several months suddenly collapses in a heap, just after an MS update has appeared, the best remedy is to use System Restore to return the machine to where it was before the update.
It is best not to allow automatic updates, even though most of them do create a Restore point. Let MS tell you they are there, but make them let you decide when to install them; MS have got it wrong too many times to be trusted

Interesting.... I’m running Win 7 64 bit..... but don’t have the folder you mention!DaveG wrote:Did FSX exit cleanly last time you used it, or did it crash?

I have C:\Users\(your user name).... but nothing inside called AppData (just contacts, Desktop, downloads etc). I've tried searching for a folder called AppData in the whole of C drive, can only find one..... C:\users\colin\AppData\local\micorsoft\windows\temporary internet files\vitualized\C\users
Tried system restore but it came back "unsuccessful"
Thanks for your ongoing help with this!!
Thanks

The folder is hidden by default. Make sure you have show hidden folders set in folder options.
At work at the mo, so not at PC. Google should be able to tell you the exact method.
