Leif would have loved this - Alabeo's new Cessna 207

Post by Paul K »

Alabeo have just released this aircraft, and it's a model I've always wanted in FSX/P3D. It's ugly, but beautifully ugly - only aeroplanes can be that way. ;)

I posted a photo of one here a long time ago, wishing that Carenado would do one, and by chance our dearly missed friend Leif Harding ( DispatchDragon ) had that very machine in his pilot's log book !

Well, Carenado has finally delivered through it's subsidiary Alabeo. I'm going to read a few reviews first and then get it anyway. Thank you Alabeo, and rest in peace Leif. :)

Hi Paul..

I don't think it's any different (quality-wise) to previous Alabeo releases.. I have a number of them and they're all good. The only thing I've read that could be considered worthy of note is the price. Carenado have only recently started selling Alabeo products from their site and it would seem that the closer the two 'publically' become, the prices increase too. *-)

I won't be getting the 207.. it doesn't float my boat :cpu:

Paul,
No hard feelings.
You got at least one bit right; it's ugly. :agree:
Still, the ones with the extra carrying space between the wheels look even uglier.
I have one in FS2004, but only because I wanted one of every prop. Cessna I could find.

I do hope that you enjoy flying it, Captain K, just warn me in advance so that I can avoid the air pollution.

Yes, RIP Leif, we do miss you.

Aww, come on Dave, buy it. You've saved us all a fortune over the years by buying things first and finding out they're crap.

Actually the only thing that concerns me at the moment is the possible shimmering problems that you get with P3D, due to some anti-aliasing science that I don't understand. You can even see it in the 207's screenshots. I've got Alabeo's Waco YMF-5, and its terrible in that. Nvidia Inspector's transparency anti-aliasing setting goes a long way to rectify it, but at a cost in FPS. You get the same problem with A2A's Cherokee. I wish LM and Nvidia would do something to sort it out.

It could be worse, Mike. Alabeo might have released this ! :-O

Yes indeed. Sad fact.. I have a LOT of GA models and do I fly any of them? No! :wall: I dig Alabeo's Waco and Tomahawk out every now and again when I'm bored but that's about it. The Staggerwing has staggeringly poor vis out which would be improved with TrackIR but without, makes landing an unnecessarily difficult evolution and the Pitts Special.. well.. I'll leave it there. Of them all, I think I get more use out of their Robbie R66 Turbo. I currently have the Carenado F33A, V35B, C90, C185F, PA28 Archer II and Skymaster 337 installed and all they do is take up HD space. Of these.. I guess the 377 and V35B see more daylight than any of the others.. purely because they're different. Between Alabeo and Carenado.. they've had a lot of money off me for very little use :( They're all beautiful models though :)

As an aside.. I'd read how good the Classics Hangar Fw190D was over at SoH so thought I'd indulge as it was on sale. I don't know what made me more disappointed.. the fact that I thought the FD is so poor or that they all thought it was so good :dunno: I thank my lucky stars I was never able to get into the SSW site to buy the highly recommended F104 :-O I think they must work on reverse psychology over there

EDIT: BTW.. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the Alabeo/Carenado models.. I just don't know why I bought them in the first place

I've got the Carenado V35B and Cessna 337 too. Both very good models, I think, particularly the Skymaster. :)

I confess I'm tempted, solely because the 207 is the only GA craft I've flown aboard in real life.

Upon reflection though, I don't know that it could be called a flight, since I was on board for the takeoff and climb only. The descent and landing were extravehicular, and much more pleasant that being on board, I might add.
When all else fails, manipulate the data.

Yes.. I think that's my only RW experience of the 207 too. That said.. it may have been a 206 :-O *-) I'll have to try and find my jump log :cpu:

I did similar from a Cessna 206 at Grindale airfield, near Bridlington back in 1977. My pilot was James 'Ginger' Lacey, the Battle of Britain ace. :)

I don't think my pilot was quite as famous  Checked the old log and it says Cessna 206 (No.1 PTS Weston on the Green). The only thing I remember about the pilot was him saying that he couldn't understand why anyone would want to jump out of a perfectly serviceable aircraft. He had a point
