Newquay Airport Scenery

Post by T6flyer »

Released yesterday by William Mayne and currently only available from flightsim.com is the new scenery package for Newquay/St.Mawgan. This was created as we needed an up to date airport for the Classic Air Force's inhouse flight simulator and with wonderful co-operation from Cornwall County Council and its employees, a very accurate model has been produced. Its designed to fit in with the Horizon Generation X photo scenery, but can also be used without.

For more information, have a look at Will's site at: https://www.swscenery.co.uk/

Cheers,

Martin

Now there's a coincidence. I was only looking on their site a couple of weeks ago and wondered when this might be available :) I'll stick with UK2K VFR for now but it's always nice to have an alternative ;)

Tried this yesterday. Loaded fair weather, and myself at the gates in a Shackleton. Tuned to ATC and asked for permission to taxi. Was told to "taxi to runway 36 Water and hold" On the way, I heard then saw several AI Hawks landing on "36 Water" They crossed the airfield at 300ft, and landed on the scenery for the old RAF St Eval before disappearing underground.

After takeoff, not from 36 Water, I could see their flags as they taxied underground. They certainly weren't at Newquay, or on water!

I'm switching back to UK2000.

I was part of the development team as the Classic Air Force of whom I'm a volunteer as we wanted suitable scenery for our in-house Flight Simulator. Having seen the Plymouth scenery created by Will Mayne and his team, we duly asked them if they would be interested in assisting and the answer was a firm 'YES'. What with absolutely wonderful support from Cornwall County Council and the Airport Authorities, I personally think that this is by far the best representation of the airfield available. The Airport kindly supplied a vehicle and driver and over 1000 photos were taken of everything and anything. Lights were turned on, lights were turned off, nothing was too much trouble. as the Council wanted a viable model of the real airport and I think they now have this.

I'm sorry to hear about your problems with the AI and I'm no expert at all, but presume it has something to do with the ICAO designator change from EGDG to EGHQ. I've had a little look in the manual and found this (see below), but I'm sure if you do continue to have problems, Will would only be too happy to assist in the disappearing AI problem.

Best wishes,

Martin
