Sale on Virtavia products

Post by rohan »

It seems that all Virtavia products have a discount of 50% at Simmarket until the end of this month. I'm tempted by the Hind and Chinook but would like to hear the views of any current owners before committing to a purchase. Thanks in advance for any input.

:worried:

The sale is also on at PC Aviator, FlightSimStore and FS Pilots Shop, and maybe others too. These are all cheaper than SimMarket as well ;)

Oo-er.. and here I was thinking I had nothing to buy!

Ro.. I have the Virtavia Chinook and it's not bad. Very little by way of UK paints for it. No idea how it compares to the ND/MilViz model. As for the Hind.. I have the ND model and it's a bit of a pig but ok. The Virtavia model is a different Mk I think.

Neither should be bad at half price. Wonder what else they have that I might want *-)

SUCKER.... 8) :wall:

I bagged the Dauphin because I wanted a Dauphin. A bit miffed it cost over a tenner and was last updated 2010. Should have known better seeing it comes in 2004 and FSX flavours but there you go. You wouldn't know looking at the model that it has either bump or spec maps so I looked and surprisingly, it does. Maybe the RN paint doesn't do either justice *-) It mentions a PK but I can't find one. Maybe you have to go to Virtavia for that :dunno: The flight model isn't too bad considering its age. The model is from a different age though. If you turn all the lights on.. the VC light shines through the roof. Lovely 8) All in all.. disappointing even at half price. Thank goodness I wasn't tempted at full price!
Also bagged the B29 too. I already had the last version (which I realised after I'd bought this one) but hoped the FSX 'only' version was going to be better. The ver you get from FSPS is v1.1 and is as recent as 2014. The modelling and paints are of a much better standard than the Dauphin. Whether they're better than the 2004/FSX version I'm not sure.. been a while since I've flown the old model. Although I didn't take any fuel out, I did bin all the bombs and managed to unstick from Culdrose a few feet before the runway ended! Handling seems very spritely for something of this size.. it will bank as fast as DG's Rapide which can't be right. That aside.. its slow to get 'on line' for finals requiring a lot of work. This isn't helped by the poor view out though this is to be expected.
Still.. its a nice looking model and better value than the Dauphin at just shy of a tenner. Glad I got it ;) Expected a Washington too but there isn't one included :|

I was surprised to see how many others I could have pointed the plastic at. I was also surprised at the asking prices of some of the older models but there you go. :)

EDIT: Found a PK for the Dauphin on the freeware pages at Virtavia (the B29 is probably there too) and a Washington paint over at Allnodes :)

I tried to post a reply last night but, yet again, my iPad wiped out my text when I went to remove the keyboard so that I could preview the reply ... GRRRRRRRH !!! Looks like I'll be visiting Apple's inGenius Bar again.

Anyway, thanks for the input. I had the Dauphin on my "tempted" list because there are quite a few repaints available that I like - oh well. I've read other comments on the HInd that say the Virtavia is much easier to fly, and there are a lot (comparatively) of repaints available to boot ...

Can anyone comment on the Chinook compared to the UKMil or Adams Woods versions, please ?

Thanks again

Ro.. do you have the Virtavia SeaKing? I'd say the Chinook is pretty well on par with that :cpu:

Just got the B-29, and it's definitely worth half the price - so, value for money.

DaveB,
although it took a long time to bite the bullet, I finally got both Sea Kings last Christmas in that half price sale. OK, sold - that's both the Hind and Chinook. Now what else ?

I see the Blenheim comes in Finnish colours, and the Hampden is almost being given away ...
