Those who have looked will probably know that you can download the "World" environment for free, including the basic-level simulated Su-25T Frogfoot/Rook AG attack aircraft.
With the next update, version 1.28, which is currently in open beta testing, a new free aircraft will be added in the shape of the TF-51D Mustang.

I bought the P-51D for $9.99 in a sale - there isn't much for it to fight against at the moment, with it being the only flyable WWII aircraft in the sim (more coming later this year), but I can tell you, it's a great little model and loads of fun to fly.
Here it is on my website screenshot page:

Many virtual pilots have complained that it is difficult to fly (being an authentic rendition...) but I've had no issues - it was great fun right from the off. If the TF is just a modified version of this, it will be just as good, if not better. A good demonstration is the start-up tutorial (flown as "mission" in the sim) as shown here:

This will have been a main source of their data, with TFC being a partner of ED/DCS:

This is also probably the testbed for the two-seat functions needed for some upcoming releases like the Hawk and Buckeye.
More reason to try DCS World
