Too many trees!

Post by ajb »

I've just upgraded my FSX Scotflight scenery (just the standard non-photo version) to v3.0. Lots of nice new things to go look at BUT there are too many trees. I don't think that this is a Scotflight problem but more likely FSX. I do all of my flying in Scotland and especially the Western Isles where I happen to live so I know precisely how tree populated the landscape is, or actually, is not. My question is, do any of you scenery gurus know how to reduce the tree hit in FSX or are there any land class products (preferably freeware) that make the rather bleak and barren highland landscape less tree-infested?

Hi Folks

Andy -
In previous Scotflight versions, their landclass was extremely localised,
being limited to areas around some modified airfields,
so you'll be seeing either default FSX, or some other installed landclass.

Anthony Dyer created a landclass derived (by hand) from background satellite photos
Latest known version 4, download from AVSIM.

N.B.
It's solely a landclass, so ensure Scotflight's coastline is still active.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the link. I was already using an earlier version of that landclass that I found yesterday. It helps and the latest version is an improvement but autogen seems to want to put trees everywhere  I've tried reducing autogen density but then of course other things disappear. I may have to live with more trees than I like as I can't afford to buy any more payware at present due to my other hobby.

Cheers!

Hi Colin,

Thanks for the link. I'll add that to my FSX.cfg and have a play around with various values. Trouble is it takes so long to get from clicking on the FSX icon to being able to fly that I might just end up pretending the trees aren't there :-O
