Victorious FSX

Post by DaveB »

WARNING.. NOT FOR THOSE WITH A FONDNESS OF DRY LAND :RN:

Having spent a couple of days intense flying to and from Vic58.. I spent a good hour admiring the scenery this evening.

It starts on a morning like any other. Sunrise and the Admiral arrives for an impromptu inspection. Later, his helo disembarks and Victorious meets Fearless..

Isn't this what flightsim is all about.. ships  Sorry if some of the shots are similar but I was having such a great time, I got a little carried away ;)

Sim: FSXA
Admirals barge: Alphasim S55
Victorious: Flying Stations
Fearless: A drivable version of DG's model

I can still smell the clean, sea air ;)

Hi Dave,
Obviously great fun for you, and evidently your rotary wing skills are magnificent. :agree:
I d/ld the other day, but haven't got my head around installing the RFN gauge etc just yet. There was mention of corrupt file, but I got it in one shot from a French site, from which the sound files are in their language.
Out of interest, the safety helicopter is visible as the green machine lands, but I can't see it in subsequent shots. Is it my poor eyesight, or what? Maybe it's just off-screen? I read something about it being there if the gauge is set to show it. *-)

Great shots Dave.

Glad despite all the issues with the RFN Guage you are enjoying her.

Looks great in formation with the LPD, the one I am painting now will look even better.

Cheers,

Fras

Bring em on Fraser. I absolutely LOVE Victorious despite the odditites with her lighting

Mike..
Well spotted :) The rescue helo only appears if the RFN gauge is installed and was visible in the early shots as I have it installed in the S-55. Quite apt that it disappeared when the Admiral disembarked as Vic was no longer at flying stations :) I did actually try and put it into the drivable Fearless but the addon that makes it work doesn't have a VC so it didn't work. I think there's a way around this but I CBA to read the blurb

The voices that come with RFN4.1 are French as you'll have discovered although I've not heard them in sim. Instead.. it uses the carrier voices that come with FSXA and there is an issue (out of the box) with this. The LSO reports you drifting right regardless of if you're drifting right or left but an edit on one of the RFN files corrects this. TBH.. I find it a distraction so turn the LSO off

Ship lovers will love Victorious in sim.. these shots don't do it justice. It's in a different league to previous FSTN's releases and makes poor Ark Royal IV look decidedly second class :( I could be uber critical. Built-in shading on the deck objects would have made her near perfect for me but it's a small point.. more an extra dollop of icing on the cake than anything else. I can't think of anything better than having a complete fleet of ships built and painted to the same standard as the 2 ships above although I appreciate they're not everyones cup of tea ;)

Dave, putting up pictures of boats is like red rag to a bull to us RAF types. I am tempted to revert to inter-service rivalry here but it is Christmas.

I understand Nev. The Navy isn't the 'Senior Service' for nothing mate.. it must be difficult having lived in it's shadow ;)

Cheers Dave. :hello: We have a Guard at Weymouth depot who is ex-RN and he gives me a hard time everytime I see him. :'( I guess it must come naturally to us all!

With all that diesel, grease, paint, rust and avgas exhaust, it must have been bracing, Dave ;)

I don't mind anything said in 'good spirit' and look at it this way.. neither of us were in the Army so we have that to be thankful for

Mike.. that's what a stroll on the upper scupper was for ;) When I used to come home from sea.. my gear would be in my grip. SWMBO would open it the next day to sort my kit out for washing and complain that all she could smell was diesel  THIS from the woman who felt sea-sick while we were tied alongside in Liverpool
