ES IoS and Alderney.. again!

Post by DaveB »

Hi Fellas,

I've recently put ES Scillies and Alderney on this pc and found I have no vegetation at Alderney.. probably a few other things missing too. I remember something back in the mists of time about there being some sort of conflict which required both areas being uninstalled then Alderney being installed first followed by the Scillies (I installed them the other way round as I have the Scillies on DVD and hadn't made a 'Pack' for Alderney).

I emailed support a week ago and have yet to receive a reply 8)

Rather than uninstall, would it work if I move IoS above Alderney or does the lot have to come off?

Try these files first Dave, it maybe that your autogen has been messed up by something else. You haven't been installing any ORBX stuff have you?

Hi Dave :hello:
I don't think that resequencing them in your listing will work; I'm guessing that a file of the same name gets overwritten when the second scenery is installed. If they were done in reverse, the "old" file will have overwritten the "new". Sorry, but I would say that you need to undo all, then reinstall the way they said. PITA, I know. 'specially with YOU being one of their most venerated clients!  :hide:

OR, of course, I may be talking nonsense, and you should do what DaveG and his yellow car man says. :dunno:

Thanks fellas :)

I tried moving areas up (13 entries x 73 levels) and that didn't work 8) I deselected them from the FSX sceneries then uninstalled them via the ESI installer. The end result is that my FSX appears to be bu99ered if I try to go to either the Scillies or Alderney 8) There was no 'uninstall' option in add and remove programs so they couldn't be got rid of that way. All in all.. a good mornings work I think 8)

EDIT: and no.. no ORBX on this pc at all ;)

Well mate.. I'm not convinced it's been 'truly' uninstalled. There's no uninstall option anywhere for it.. only if it's done online through ESI (which I have to say I hate with a passion). You can't even install software off CD/DVD unless you go through the ESI 'routine' which is ridiculous :| I found some tree textures in the ES Backup folder and lobbed those into FSX and now have trees everywhere (they'd even gone from Treescapes) 8)
I'd tried to reinstall Alderney having first used the uninstall option through ESI for both Alderney and the IoS. The install routine came up saying it couldn't find a particular file (which was present in the FSX Autogen folder). The end result was FSX crashed if I selected either Alderney or IoS.

There is a 'Plan B' option should I decide to take it. GUE, ALD and IoS are installed on my E8400 system and I can copy the lot 'en-bloc' onto an external drive, note the install order off that pc and install them onto the QX manually. Thing is, the ES software can make quite drastic changes and if you don't know where all the files have gone, it could spell disaster :worried: I'm not sure if I can be bothered *-)

Hi Dave :hello:

In the event, I didn't. Can't ever remember using the compatibility files on my other install and I don't have any Aerosoft/FranceVFR or ORBX scenery installed. All I have on this is GenX and UK2K VFR Airports.. oh, and ACG Duxford and Marham.

Having got it to a state where FSX would run, I've tried installing Alderney again a few mins ago and the error I had yesterday with it not being able to find that Autogen file didn't happen. I've just flown GUE-ALD and the system didn't crash which is a bonus! This said.. I've had a quick look around the island and it still doesn't look right. I now seem to have too much autogen in some places (too many varieties of trees) and not enough in others (the Alderney airport building is missing for one) 8)

I may do a straight swap with all the files off the E8400 but as I said above, ES stuff loads in mysterious ways. An example is I uninstalled Shawbury Fields on the E8400 to stop OOM's in that region and yet all the additional houses and stuff added by Shawbury Fields remained :dunno: Good as this stuff is.. there are holes big enough to drive a bus through in the way it's installed/uninstalled 8)

How's that other Dave, Dave?
Could be the voice of reason again; "When all else fails, follow the instructions".
Though by now, that may be too late. :( "Another fine mess you've got us in!"
I agree with your grouch about the B..... install routine.....I come out the other side feeling like I've been through the spin cycle, then tentatively hunt around to see if it actually worked.

The voice of reason indeed!

Have you by chance glanced in the ES-3D texture folder recently? There are files in there for Guernsey, IoM, Edinburgh.. :-O Many of these aren't on my E8400 so it proves the 'Make Pack' downloaded the latest files if nothing else. I'll try the comp files.. nothing to lose 8)

EDIT: Still the same 8)

EDIT#2 A straight swap of directories (E8400 to QX) has got the them looking very similar now. Still the odd different tree here and there *-)
