NVidia GTX 760 and P3D Performance

Post by ChrisHunt »

Well card duly received and bunged in... brief test yesterday evening having a blast around the South of France in P3D v1.4 with FTX Global and the French landclass and vector scenery that I can't remember the name of right now (but it is good!). Anyways, in brief, difference in frame rates isn't huge but there is an improvement. Also improved is general texture refresh even with P3D version 1 still being largely CPU bound. I also don't get the flashing polygons with the 760 so even without P3D v2 there is a noticeable and worthwhile improvement. Now all I need is P3D v2 to make the "business case" even more positive!

Regards,
Chris

Just a quick update on the GTX 760 performance - decided to fire up Battlefield 3 and I must say the improvement in performance and image quality is very substantial. Having said that there's not much time to admire the nice graphics when you're constantly getting your head blown off! So if you like to mix and match your gaming on the PC and you've got an older card the 760 is not a bad bet at all.

Regards,
Chris

Thanks for the update Chris.
I'll probably wait until P3d v2 is out and see how the old 460 copes, but I bet I end up upgrading anyway!

That's exactly what I found when my old GTS8800 died and it got replaced with the GTX550Ti. I thought I'd load up CoD and the end result, other than looking and working a lot better was that I got shot faster

Hi chaps,

I've been looking at the texture fill rate on the 760 and it looks to be a bit below the previous generation of cards, as does the number of cores. :dunno:

True Ben but it is also cheaper. There are some advantages to owning the 7 series over the 6 series but I CBA to trawl through the various web sites to dig them out. All I can say is that it performs very well indeed.

Colin, it's the ASUS NVidia GTX 760 DirectCU II OC. The OC stands for overclocked (by a little bit but it comes with a utility to overclock it by a little bit more. Must be better than my previous version as I'm sure the name is longer.

Chris

Ah yes.. it's all in the name  My 560 is an Asus Nvidia GTX560Ti DirectCU II OC. All I can say is that it's a darned pretty card and I've never tried the OC software
