FSX DX10

How many of you actually use DX10 in FSX and if you do is there any performance gains fps wise or graphic improvement?
I have read of certain issues users have had however (as you may be aware) there is a patch to fix some known issues at AVSIM
http://library.avsim.net/search.php?Sea ... CatID=root&
If I decide to try DX10 (more out of curiosity to see if there is any improvement performance wise) is there any likely problem that could occur in FSX settings or software issues by reverting back from DX10 to DX9?
Many thanks in advance
Regards
Nigel

No real reason to use the FSX demo mode. Its nice to see some of the enhancements but given that it knocks most of the addons which aren't DX10 compatible into white ghosts I don't see much point in using it. Different kettle of fish if had been a ground up DX10 game with full compatibility, but its not, hence why its called DX10 Demo mode. It was done to showcase what could be done in DX10 rather than being a permanent way to play the game.

Thanks for the reply Ben, in that case I will stick with DX9.
Late Edit: Came across a list of freeware user aircraft that are compatible with DirectX 10.

I've been using DX10 mode for ages now, along with Steves fixes on Avsim. Great improvement in my opinion.
Steve has just released a commercial upgrade package that fixes about 95% of the original problems, including white or untextured FS9 models.

Dave,
I tried DX10 today but only noticed a very small performance gain though I am only running an i3 with 4Gb Memory and an Nvidia GTX 560 Card.
Do not as yet have the patch from Avsim but assume that it works quite well? Moreover, does it give an increase in performance as well or is it purely cosmetic to improve graphic issues?
Are there any other tweaks to do in order to optimise DX10 as reverted back to DX9 for now.
Regards
Nigel.

The patches only fix the graphical side of things as far as I'm aware.
DX10 does push more of the rendering onto the graphics card, but it's still very much CPU bound.
One big advantage of DX10 mode is that it handles the memory better, so you're much less likely to get out-of-memory crashes if you're using high resolution aircraft with HD clouds etc.
The Avsim forums have a
dedicated DX10 section which has a very useful "
How to" sticky post

Less OOM's would be a good start Dave.. this is the one major drawback I have with FSX on my current setup
May take a look at this myself

Many thanks Dave, will have to wait to download it when up in Doncaster next month then give it another go, the graphics certainly appeared better so will be worth trying again.
