Hi Gents,
I have FS Global scenery installed in F9 that is on E Drive and today i installed a new F9 on the default C Drive as well but when i go to install the FS Global in this new install of F9 it is asking if i want to Repair/Uninstall etc not installing it as per new F9,
If i rename the F9 folder in E Drive it is saying by doing this that it could become unstable, same as the other folders ie Program Files/Microsoft Games,
I can't understand why this is happening as i thought that having partitioned the drives they would be separate and kid MS that i only have one install on C Drive,
Hope you can understand all this and any help would be appreciated if you do!!!,
Thanks,
Roger.

Re: Scenery Install
Not sure Roger but one theory I have is that your FS Global Scenery may well be registered in the registry of your OS and it is reading that as already installed regardless of what drive you are putting it on hence the asking if you want to Repair/Uninstall.
Don't know how you get round that but no doubt one of the gurus here will advise.
I may be wrong though.
Regards
Nigel.

Re: Scenery Install
Hi Roger
First question is.. how did you manage to install another instance of FS9 on your C drive when there was already one (current I presume) on another drive?
I'm guessing you didn't uninstall the previous FS9 so when you went to install FSGlobal on your new FS9 install, that's why it asked if you wanted to repair or remove. It must be registered (in the registry) as already being in your old FS9 which is why it won't let you install the same thing twice.
I'll leave someone else to talk you out of the mire. It's too much at this time of night

Re: Scenery Install
Hello Dave,
To your question Dave, i made three partitions on my hard drive so Micro-ripoff thinks i have three hard drives and i installed a fresh install on C with no problems, as this FS Global is an automatic install i understand that it's more than likely to do with it being in the XP registry, with any addons i download i usually send them to a new folder so i can check any problems and manually install them,
No problem, i will have to do without the scenery
Roger.

Re: Scenery Install
Hiya Roger
I wouldn't have thought having your HD partitioned would have made any difference mate. Progs like FS9 have a registry entry and as such, will not let you have more than one instance on your computer regardless of drive location. I know that multiple installs of FS9 is possible but I've never tried and have forgotten how it was achieved
Just putting the disc in and installing seems far too easy but you've managed it
What you've seen with FSGlobal is far more the norm.. 'I'm here, what do you want to do.. repair or remove?'.
This said, it may still be possible to use FSGlobal in your new install too if your scenery files are able to reference it. I don't have FSG so wouldn't know where to begin but as it's name suggests, it undoubtedly makes quite deep changes to the default install. Have a look at how FSG is referenced in your old scenery.cfg and you may be able to add the same refs to your new cfg.. after making sure they're in numeric sequence. It may also destroy your new install but if you're gonna try it.. do it now while there's little to lose other than time

Re: Scenery Install
Hi Gents,
Success!
Well so far
I found in fs2004 [E Drive] a folder called FSGSE ,inside this folder i found this, Just Flight FS Global Scenery Sharer and a readme, it says and i Quote.
Many people who have upgraded from Flight Simulator 2002 to Flight Simulator 2004
still keep FS2002 installed on their computer and still use it frequently. Often because
they have favourite aircraft or scenery that will not work as well (or at all) in the newer
version.
People in this situation may wish to have the vastly-enhanced terrain provided by FS
Global 2005 available in both simulator versions.
It is obviously very wasteful to have the full FS Global 2005 data installed twice. 12
gigabytes is a lot of hard disk space on its own and 24 gigabytes would be far too much
for many systems. What is needed is a way to set up the simulators so that both access the
same set of data which only has to be installed once. Un Quote.
So i now have FS Global installed in both sims C and E drive!
Why have i got two FS2004 sims, well on the new install i have all my jet aircraft and all the other types in the old FS2004. [if you did want to know]
It might be of help to others,
Roger.

Re: Scenery Install
That's a good find Roger and generous of the developers to think of including something like that.
