FSX.cfg

Post by Nigel H-J »

Good evening problem solvers!!

This is just an easy question for those in the know 8) Occassionally I have found that the FSX.cfg has sprouted a duplicate copy not in notepad but in wordpad, when it does this I just delete it. Can any-one shed a light on to why this happens and also does it have any effect on FSX if left alone and not deleted?
Many thanks in advance.

Regards
Nigel.

Hi Nigel,

When you say it spouts a duplicate, can you explain when this happens, i.e. what are you doing and what is running when it happens? :)

Oooh 'eck Ben, now your're asking!! :$ I think it may have happened when I have been tweaking the FSX.cfg notably changing values such as FIBER_FRAME_FRACTION= plus a few other tweaks then flying after which I close FSX then back to the cfg to change values slightly to see if any improvement can be made further and that is when I have found the doubled up version of the cfg. Does not happen all the time though.

Sorry I can't be more specific.

Nigel.

What I'm getting at is what you mean by doubled up, as you can have two files with the same name in the same folder, I'm not understanding what you mean by doubled up matey :)

Sorry Ben, it's the way I write it!! :hide: I have the fsx.cfg file as normal in notepad form but sometimes another cfg spawns (a copy of the original fsx.cfg) and is on wordpad. I am not sure why this happens and wonder if it has any affect or impact on FSX when it is running. Going off duty in half an hour so will have another try in the afternoon to see what causes it.

Hi mate,

FSG.cfg get written to while the program is running, so if you open it in notepad, then launch the sim the same file will be reopened, thus giving the appearance of two files. The only reason one is opening in wordpad is that somewhere down the line, wordpad has been set as the default program to open cfg files. If your making changes to the cfg, you should always do it when FSX is not running and always save and exit notepad / wordpad before starting FSX again. ;)

Hi Ben,

When I have made the alterations to the cfg file the sim has always been shut down then re-started after I have saved the file, so do not know why it is creating a copy. This does not happen all the time only very occassionally. Give me a couple of days or until next week just in case and I will try to get it to do it again but this time will make notes of what I have done for it to happen again.

Nigel.

Nige..

It's not unusual to have 2 cfg's in the documents/user folder. One is generally fsx.cfg and the other is fsx.cfg.txt.. something like that. Is this the one you mean?

Hi Dave :hello: Yes, one is cfg the other is txt, in that case I don't need to worry about it then!! :worried:

Not as though I was but I had noticed that it had a habit of returning like a bad penny after being shown the recycle bin   Just wondered whether it was me causing this messing about as usual. :hide:

In that case I will put this to bed and go quietly into a corner until I can think up of summat else to wittle about!!

Many thanks Dave and also not forgetting our guru Ben.

Kind regards

Nigel.
